My 9 an 11 yr olds have had kindles for a year. They have all kinds of games and music on them and play them for hours without any issues. We just bought our 7 yr old one yesterday!

I've heard that the kindles back ground can not be changed and that there are advertisements for amazon ALL over the kindle. True?

My daughter (14) told me that there is a way to unlock them to get rid of the ads, but I haven't done that myself. She said to just google it???

I just use mine for reading, so it doesn't bother me.

The ads just show when the Kindle is in standby. They don't do anything during normal reading.

There are several versions of the Kindle. Some versions show more ads than others.
