This is reminiscent of the loose and shoddy thinking that advocates the inefficient deployment of resources because random searches are found to be more palatable to sensibilities than targeted searches based on mathematically established proclivities

Since law enforcement rightfully reaches for profiling as a useful tool after a crime has been committed, why is it so taboo when intervening to prevent crime

Stopping hundreds of thousands of people a year with less than 15% of them getting convicted of anything is not efficiently deploying resources. That would seem to indicate there was little to no actual RAS other than who they were and/or where they were.

This is worse than the police questioning someone about a report of them simply having a gun. People here get all up in arms about that, yet it is OK for the police to just stop people are search them for far less? This is the kind of heavy handed policing that is supposed to be a thing of the past.
