I had some clean stages hitting every shot and 2 with just a couple of misses I just was not fast.
Yes it was a good time. I learned some things and will be addressing them.

1. I read the rules again so I can have the right questions to ask.
2. I also have questions about the division you choose to shoot in.

Divisions:

Limited (L)
Any center fire pistol with open sights.
There is no limit on magazine capacity; you may load magazines to full capacity.
Pistols can be customized / modified.
No optics, ports,compensators, or external weights.

1. I read where you have to have 5 magazines. Why?
2. If you have 3 magazines with 17 rounds each = 51 rounds total available for hitting 6 steel targets (sometimes 10?), why would you need 5 magazines = 85 rounds?
3. What am I missing?

Limited 10 (L10)
Same as Limited, but load magazines to a maximum of 10 rounds.

4. Why would a person want to choose a division with a limit on the maximum number of rounds in the magazine?
5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each division in the context of rounds in a magazine?
6. Wouldn't a newbie want to choose the division where you have 17 rounds instead of 10 rounds available in case he is a bad shot?

Open
Any center fire handgun. There is no limit on magazine capacity;
you may load magazines to full capacity.
Pistol can be customized/ modified.
Optics, ports, compensators and external weights are allowed.

7. This would be for those who have a red dot optic and much more instead of open sights?

Production
Service type Double-action (DA), double-action only (DAO), or SafeAction center fire handguns.
DA handguns with an external hammer and decocker must fire the first shot double-action.
Load magazines to a maximum of 10 rounds.
No external modifications are permitted with the exception of replacement sights, grips,
and the application of “skateboard tape”.
No optics, ports, compensators, or external weights.

8. If you have a DA/SA pistol, do you have to be in this division?
9. If you have a DA/SA pistol, can you use that gun in the limited or open division w/o using the D/A for your first shot?

U are complicating this way to much! you show up with your fav handgun and we will make sure you are in the correct div.

You have no idea what he is capable of. He will need to be his own squad on his own with an RO......
He will need to write all this up and evaluate it on every stage..................

I marked all of the critical parts in places they would not look. I will know.
