When the project moves from rescue to recovery is there a purpose?

Can they learn for the future from the retrieved sub that failed or is the sub so destroyed and no different than picking up aluminum cans for recycling?
To return the remains to their families.

If located in one piece this is a relatively simple recovery. Aircraft are retrieved by the Navy at this depth regularly.

The Chinese have it. Like Moonraker but in the ocean. Seems Bond had a “Moonraker” type of movie under water but the name eludes me.

    Submarines are RARELY recovered.
The ONLY thing going for this one is it's size.
Also the fact that it's a civilian submarine not carrying nukes I imagine.

And not a top secret military sub ... like the Russian Kursk.

The Russians refused any international help at the time.
Here you have several countries all working together and bringing their best tech.

Depth is also important I imagine.
German U-boats have been salvaged but they probably not as deep as the Titan is now.

    Money is also very important.
Having a billionaire (if he's actually a billionaire, at least a multi-millionaire) stuck inside changes everything.
    It's not poor Russian sailors.

At that depth, they're not recovering remains.
At least not remains you're recognizing.
Water coming in, in the hundreds of miles an hour.

In the end, the Kursk retrieval was trivial. it wasn't too deep.

Also, while the Russian response sucked, and we can go into deep discussion on that if you want, but in the end.. it didn't matter. The last survivors died before the Russians could have got to them.

Wow! Apparently Josh Gates, from the tv show expedition unknown, decided the vessel was too sketchy!
Gates will go about anywhere. If he wouldn’t go down to the Titanic in that thing it must have been bad.

I hope they find them alive but the odds are against it. This goes from a rescue operation to recovery very soon. Say they do locate the crushed or otherwise compromised sub. Do they bring it up to investigate or just drop a wreath? Serious question. What does that kind of pressure do to the human body?
There would be body parts. We’re composed of plenty of incompressible liquids. Some air space, but mostly solids and liquids (and yes, some gases).

    Edit: unless it violently imploded.
