Just picked up my first 3rd gen., Model 915. Solid piece, don't think I could ever wear it out, but I plan to try.
LOL...once the special sauce wears off that AWESOME looking Sig you have coming and you have adjusted to the small caliber 45, we are going to get you into a 4506... (not my image).
So a quick call to S&W and my "new" 457 was made 1-29-1996 VDK pre fix. The differences between the 96 and 99 457's are as follows: MIM hammer on 99 vs solid on the 96, roll marks on the 96 vs lazer etching on the 99, and no laser etching on the 99 frame vs S&W logo roll mark on the 96 frame.
Appears the 96 is one towards the begging of production and I would rate it a conservative 90%. It appears though to be closer to 95% such as my 99. Total cost from GB to transfer was $362.26 +\- a few cents for USPS money order.
I took it off so I could look at the finish underneath. It still looks good but prefer my Smiths naked.Uber cool! I am assuming the one with the grip is going to be your weak side shooter?
I don't have any "blued" 3rd gens....maybe I need just one...
SUPER good buy!!!
I wouldn't have a clue on pricing without asking you. Maybe sometime though I'll pick up a 915 and 457. The "collection" (cough cough) doesn't have any three digit 3rd gens.
The 410/411 is cheap. I'd like to find a stainless 410 at some point. I really enjoy my 908 and 909, there sure are some odd ball value line guns. I might have to thin my modern sporting rifle collection, going to need to buy a tractor to do some mowing on a new place.
awhile back, late last year, I bought a S&W 410 with Crimson Trace laser grips for 300 and it is a dream to shoot. I later added a 4006tsw and it shares the same mags and could shoot it all day.
I'm watching some 411's that are sub $300 with 2 mags
I paid $225 for mine this spring, granted with no mags. But I've got a pile of 4006 mags so it didn't make a difference.
How is the condition?
