I have family in a US territory. They get exasperated explaining that a) no, you don't need a passport, and b) yes, you can just mail a letter.

Well, that's like airport security confiscating liquids as possible bomb making material, then disposing of it in a garbage can right near the line of people..
Hey, it is better when you are taking gold bond powder with you on your carry on, they open it up, then pour some out to test it...I swear these people ate paste as kids.
