Trump denies Minnesota governor's request for $500M to repair damage from riots

George Floyd’s death was bound to provoke a strong reaction, especially as relations between police and African Americans have been particularly fraught in recent years. The peaceful protests that followed saw people exercising their rights under the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Authorities should protect that constitutional right as doggedly as any other. It is an indispensable part of a free country.
But these protests were shoved off the front pages by four nights of violence in the Twin Cities that spread across the country and even across the planet.
The problems in minneapolis won't be fixed by throwing Federal fix-the-buildings money at them. They run much deeper than that and they won't be fixed fast or easy. It would be a complete waste of money to give them a dime.
Time for the reality of their decisions to remain until they decide to make different decisions.
