...If the police department didn't want the mayor there then they should have made that very clear. I am doubting they did. That funeral was the wrong place to make any form of political statement.

Hasn't this been in the news for days now, the expression of LEO not wanting the mayor at the funeral?

You can't use the other 364 days of the year to make your point? You think the officers turning their backs on De Blasio will make him rethink his position? All I see coming out of this is a further rift between the police, the mayor and the people.

No matter how much I might agree with the protest statement being made, it doesn't change the fact that it's wrong to use someone's funeral as a means to achieve a desired end. What would happen if soldiers in uniform turned their back on the president? Do not the officers of NYPD work under the mayor?

Comparing us to soldiers? I thought militarization was bad. At the end of the day no one cares to run funeral planning by you to see what you think is appropriate. That's up to the deceased's wishes, family and friends. Period.

I know it's cool to rage against the machine, you are all wonderful patriots, and I'm thoroughly impressed, but seriously, in this instance, roll it and shove it up your ass.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ apply this as needed.

A strong statement. Letting the boss know in no uncertain terms he is loosing his grip on those he is supposed to support.

This implies that a mayor is supposed to support one group over another. I personaly am not aware of why officer's turned their backs on DiBlasio. If his office is endangering officers, I can understand it. What eactly has he done that makes NYPD blame him for there two officers murders?

That was not exactly how I intended that to be stated.
The Mayor is the boss. He sets the tone. He sends these people into the world to do bosses bidding. He needs to be solidly behind those men/women. It appears he is not.
I am sure there is more to this than we are aware.

The NYPD has been pissed with him from day one. Why? Because he won the mayoral race in a landslide running on a platform of police reform. The people of NYC spoke loud and clear on the matter that they were tired of the way NYPD had been operating for years and wanted substantial change. They don't want to change and want to continue to be the Billy Badass of the policing world. De Blasio is having none of it.

    If true, this makes sense.

“I’ve had to worry over the years, Chirlane has had to worry: Is Dante safe each night?” de Blasio said Wednesday. “And not just from some of the painful realities of crime and violence in some of our neighborhoods but safe from the very people they want to have faith in as their protectors.”

Is the mayor wrong? Does NYPD overpolice and over react to blacks? I think the proof, from years of reports by outside agencies is that they do. NYPD has a race problem, as was pointed out in the recent "stop and frisk" report. The cops may not like it, but the mayor is not wrong. Oh, and the headline? Where did that come from in the cited article? After looking at Google for that "quote", the only link I can find for it is back to the blog you linked to, not that it's incorrect.

Maybe you would feel the same way after lowering 2 of your brothers into the ground at Christmas time after the mayor and other talking heads faned the flames to ambush them. There have been more since but the media doesn't care about that. The keyboard commandoes and haters will grow silent now that the media can run another missing airplane into the ground.

The mayor did not" fan the flames", as far as I can see, and in fact had nothing but kind words for the slain officers and their families. He even called for a ceasefire in the protests against police brutality and racism during a mourning period for the officers. Reality doesn't seem to mesh with the police narrative.

He's a big D politician/angel in this instance because the cops don't like him.

He's taking the same approach Frank Straub attempted with IMPD and is just as despised for it, for good reason. No one is claiming NYPD is without problems, that would be a lie. What politicians like De Blasio attempt to do is to convince everyone that the entire agency is corrupt so they can garner support to do whatever they want with the agency. That is an even bigger lie than anyone attempting to say the agency is trouble free. Strangely, those who don't like the police and the authority they represent have no problems accepting their hypocrisy to support someone willing to tell them what they want to hear.

I'd have turned my back on him as well and it would be anything but disrespectful to the men in the caskets. The only thing political about the statement is that the message was directed to a politician. It was a personal message to the mayor.

You might want to tune back in to reality with how that openly socialist mayor has treated the police and spoke in the media

He likes the way the Mayor treated the police, he's just like the mayor.
