So what is the fascination with posts that someone got the vaccine? Just today my better half commented about all the preening on social media when folks get the vaccine like they are in some special club or the cute guy at school looked at them. Seems like that is what this thread has devolved into also...

Or and this is just a WAG. People could be relaying their experiences for people that would be interested in hearing it. Let people know if they're experiencing side effects.

Oh. Much signaling is being done on the virtue of being vaccinated. I mean. People taking pictures of themselves waiting in line for it, pretending to be inconvenienced. Sigh, oh, look at me, I'm doing my part to end the pandemic by suffering though this 40 ft long line of...half a dozen socially distant people.

I'm not even against people getting vaccinated. It seems to work. I just think people can be awful self-promoting creatures.

There’s plenty of virtue signaling everywhere on all sides.
    Too true.

I see virtue signaling as a minor pointless act of that is intended to let others know that you "care" (but not enough to do anything meaningful).

In the case of vaccinations, you're actually doing something that is meaningful, so I don't dismiss it as such. Now, if vaxxers get to be annoying like vegans or talk about it constantly like crossfit...

Meaningful isn't the crux. It's the virtue, but also cost. If virtue signalers could do something meaningful that cost nothing, how is that anything but a virtuous win for them as long as they can flaunt their virtue. Why earn virtue by your own sacrifice to help that homeless man over there when you can just go to polls and vote for some socialism? See? That wasn't hard, now was it. You helped the poor. Yer done. Virtue points earned. People are more eager to do the things for which they can claim virtue if they have lower cost/effort/sacrifice.

You're a fan of the Bible. The Pharisees were the virtue signalers of the age. Right? Putting their great piety on display, in a way that it didn't actually didn't cost them anything real. Just be seen following strict rules. Praying a lot. Pretty easy compared with real ass sacrifices that devotion costs. If you're getting a vaccine, fine. The world will go on just fine if they never learn of your great virtue and mediocre sacrifice.

    Oh I get it.

OTOH, we've been dealing with bug for a year, and folks (incl. me) are really, really happy to get a vaccine.

So what if people post a picture of their bandaid on Instatard? They do the same thing if they get a new car, right? They're just happy they got it. Maybe they're also hoping to influence others to get a vax too; nothing wrong with that at all. If you believe something is good thing, why not allow a little peer pressure to work its magic?

If you call everything virtue signalling, that phrase going to become just as weak as "cancel culture" and "snowflake" or "unique". (The last one really bothers me, more so, "very unique". Either it's unique or it's not, there's no steps).

As to the "the cost", if you listen to some tinfoil folks around here, you'd think the cost of the vax was very high.

PS - I got mine at Kroger, and the receipt said my insurance "saved" me $5.60. :n00b:

Yeah, posting on social media and either stating or implying that one is doing their part to save lives by getting vaccinated... virtue signaling.

Putting in your sig line, or liberally sprinkling in other posts "I stopped by my lgs on the way from getting my second jab".... virtue signaling. You know, the way some people with a PhD somehow mention it in every... single... conversation... lol!

In a thread about whether you are getting a vaccine or not, why or why not, which one, and how did it go... not so much!

So, yeah, "meaningful" is meaningful... as well as reading WHICH room you're in, let alone the mood of that particular room.

Novavax is coming and does not use mRNA or fetal cell lines.

We are looking at a month or 2 and that is not too long to wait for a person that has concerns.
I'm still not convinced I need a vaccine for a virus that has only killed 66 people out of over 29,000 in my county since the outbreak. Most of those who died were trapped in a death home (nursing home) with a lot of underlying health problems.

So, I checked... Ripley county shows 21-24 of the deaths occurred in long term care facilities (one facility had at least one but less than 5, so 1-4) .

And, not every LTC is a "nursing home". I've been in a number of LTC's in the past several years and none look anything like the nursing homes when I was young... so I guess I would ask what you mean since LTC covers assisted living, skilled-care AND memory/cognitive/dementia units. And, only for the more severe dementia residents are they "secured" from leaving... the vast majority of the others are voluntary.

The three LTCs in Ripley with deaths encompass all three.

Anyhow, I'm seeing MOST of the COVID deaths in Ripley county occurring outside of any kind LTC, let alone whatever you mean by "nursing home".

That's one end of the spectrum, the other end is head in the sand, fingers in ears saying "la-la-la-la"...

Don't know about others, but I'm going public about mine with hope of identifying someone willing to drive us to Krusty Kreme for our free donut after the next shot. Hardly even felt the microchip or does that come with the second shot?

Because If they get them to the hospital before death occurs it is outside a nursing home.
My parents will never go to one. My mother was at one for 2 weeks after back surgery and it was horrible. I went seen her daily making sure she was being treated properly. Half the time they wouldn't give her medication on time until I or another family member told them too. They stole things from her also and when I brought it up they had some excuse for it.
Never go to one again. I'll set up a nurse or nurse's aid to come to the house and check on her if there is a next time.
