Please post a few pics of it. At least one of the geriatrics here should know all about it.I'll have to go pull it out of the safe and let you know.

According to Wikipedia, the 1894 AE was chambered in .44-40. I have one in .44 mag. The Marli 1894 was also chambered in .44-40.
Mine makes a great deer rifle. Shoots hard cast wonderfully.I likewise have a 1894 Trails end octagon in 44 mag. Have not shot it yet though?
1892 44 WCFGeriatric checking in.
I don't think Winchester made an 1894 in 44-40, plenty of 1892s and 1873s in that caliber though. I think what he has is a 1892 and those are good to go with smokeless. Older 1873s are typically where you run into issues with using smokeless.

I stand corrected.
If BigRed's mod credentials were active...I apologize for limiting my remarks to only the 1911. In penance for my misguided limitation let me say: You are correct, ALL of JMB’s creations are classics. I do own a few!
I actually knew that part. :-) someone asked what was on the barrel. Missed it by 2 years. Which could have really messed me up when I was 18.Same thing as 44-40.
It was exciting, I did a stalk. Had 8 rounds of my reloads. And fired all 8...he was running downhill. I hit him on my first shot and 2 of the next 7. He disappeared at the bottom. Of the hill in a small creek. As I was heading downhill, another boar, twice this one's size appeared. Luckily he didn't charge, as I was out of ammo. That looks like a fun day!!!
