I think it would be more than that to replace now, especially if it was a J.M. stamped barrel.Years ago, I had a Marlin 336 in .30-30, and I stupidly traded it off about ten years ago. To try and replace it now, would run me about 700 dollars or so. I really want that gun back, in the same caliber.
Live and learn.
You're right Mgderf; they are very expensive if you can even FIND one. All most 2 years ago now, I found my first J.M. stamped Marlin 336 in .30-30 for $850. It was a 1979 model, no cross bolt safety and very clean. I hadn't seen one at my LGS for years and didn't own any at the time so I bought it!I think it would be more than that to replace now, especially if it was a J.M. stamped barrel.
To get a new "Marlin" now you'd need to go Ruger and I don't think you'll get a Ruger Marlin in any caliber for $700.
Yeah, they are closer to 900 now!I think it would be more than that to replace now, especially if it was a J.M. stamped barrel.

Question is the 44 Largo the same also?Same thing as 44-40.
That thing is awesome, and just begs for a X-Frame to keep it company! What's the recoil like? Does the base of the skinner sight extending out over the ejection port interfere with ejection at all?I’ve waited for one of these for a very long time…. Figured no better time than now Big Horn Armory Model 89 Spike Driver chambered in 500 S&W.
Question is the 44 Largo the same also?
The jokes write themselves sometimes.Yes, that's the Italian name for 44-40.
Other calibers have the Italian tag of "largo" like 9mm largo. it sort of translates into large, wide or loose.
Right?! I didn't know she was Italian. I just knew the bar was closing soon. The jokes write themselves sometimes.
I wasn’t gonna say it, …..but it’s still right there.Right?! I didn't know she was Italian. I just knew the bar was closing soon.
