Ok, that's not a picture, still patriotic ...

Jon Stewart speaks in front of (mostly empty)Congress on behalf of 9/11 first responders.

You might not agree with all his political views but that was a great speech IMO.

The US Senate has voted to extend the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, which was at risk of running out of money.
In a 97-2 vote, the Senate passed a bill to continue compensation payouts through to 2090. The fund was due to stop taking new claims in late 2020.

    They did it!

Amazing that two senators voted against the bill to help 9/11 first responders.

A bit of a misleading way to frame it, as though they don't like the first responders.

I believe the objection was funding this until almost year 2100, which seems excessive.

Well they did vote against the bill, but you're right.

Also there are 100 senators, why was the vote 97-2? One is missing.

I would have voted no. Funded until 2090? That is absurd. Anybody that voted yes for it is a moron.
If you were born there you would be 89 by the time the 'fund' ran out. If you are facing medical issues related to working there, what is the average life expectancy with the 'best of' medical care. If an individual was working there, that would make them a minimum of 108 years old when the fund runs out. This is bleeping crazy. no wonder we are broke.

Why isn't this covered under "workman's comp"?
    Injuries received due to employment.
Seems like the workplace "government" should take care of them.

I hope this facebook link works. Couldn't figure out who this young girl is, but she does an incredible National Anthem.

I was all goosebumps, and watery eyes. Reina Ozbay

EDIT: It didn't work... kept going to a different video.

Found it. E-mailed the station, they sent the link. Her name is Reina Ozbay, and she's a trained soprano from South FL. She's 9 years old.
