Nice, sounds like a fun way to spend a few hours.
As for the gauge question..I would speculate maybe they are placed so that when running all the needles should point in basically the same direction. I knew some drivers that liked to have all the needle point straight up, so it could be checked with just a glance

Ding Ding Ding!!!!!! Thunderchicken is Correct. The Gauges are installed so the Driver can tell at a glance that every Gauge needle is pointing at the Sky. At 200 MPH+ you cover a lot of real estate, can't take your eyes off the Track for long.

Getting them ready and on the track....run the laps and then put them to bed is an all day ordeal most times.

390 suck like a straw factory.

When I did exhaust work work for a living, I sent all 390 work away.

They were notorious to crack and then the bolts woul break off in the heads.

Did I say they suck yet?

I learned long ago that if the heads of the bolts are deteriorated to the point the socket is to big then leave it alone.
Beyond that I always did this work hot. It sucks but it also reduces the breakage.

    Getting into the stroker.
    Heads off.

These (pistons) are leaving. 13.5 to 1 CR with these and the closed chamber heads. Have forged flat tops. 10.5 to 1 with them. More docile for the street.

Not sure I can run this deep pan on the street.....:(
