In today's evil is good, and good is evil ideology it probably won't.
It has nothing to do with that. It's not a dig at the lessons/morals it's a dig at pushing religion which is a no go.

Can't push Christianity on students just like you can't push Islam, Buddhism, paganism etx.

Would any students even know it was the Ten Commandments if they weren't told? Ditch the stone tablet, maybe curtail the first four. Then simply write the remaining six without any context to religion?? It won't likely have much effect. Parents should be teaching their kids respect and responsibility at home. No matter the determination of a teacher, without reinforcement at home, the lessons won't be learned. I agree it should be the schools choice. No forcing from the gov.

If anyone has been paying attention to the state of public schools these days, no matter if you’re from LA or Paoli, why would you want public school teachers leading your kids in anything religious? The schools are not the same as it was when a lot of us were kids. Not even close.

They have their gods and idols they worship and that’s why your grandkids are supportive of homosexuality, think climate change is man-made, college education ought to be free, government programs will solve every malady of man, etc.

In reality, it's far more the same than different. Come'on it's the same schedule, buildings, buses, class structure, grades, tests, books, curriculum, etc., etc. despite what the culture warriors on Twitter tell you.

If you want to point to all the evils in the school, you need to realize it's not the schools, it's everywhere in America. The schools are stuck reacting to external forces (e.g. lack of discipline). I have to imagine that for most schools, their biggest concern is just hiring and keeping teachers.

Teachers are automatons, nor are they singularly minded. I know lots of teachers that can or do lead Sunday School classes. In fact, my wife's best friend teaches, and has very similar views about things that we need not pull into yet another INGO thread.

You gotta turn off the Twitter for your own sanity.

    EDIT:

When I was in school the big deal was, "can we have a gay teacher?" Welp, that sort of came and went without a whole lot of change. I really can't point to anything and say something terrible happened because of an openly gay teacher.

Going back further, you've got school integration...

There's always something to point to and say, "Schools aren't the same like in my generation!"

I disagree. The class structure is not the same. The curriculum is certainly not the same - not even close. The books aren't the same. They've been "sanitized" to remove "uncomfortable" subjects like the Civil War, etc.. Books? No way. Think kids are given assignments to do a book report on Huckleberry Finn or Tom Sawyer? Oops, can't do that. They've been banned. There were definitely no books on gay marriages/families. There were no drag queens coming to read stories. Grades? Most are pass/fail now. Everyone gets a trophy. I'd say today's schools have very little in common with the schools from when I was attending.

Poppycock. You must watch too much Twitter, too.

I was just tutoring a child do math, and read Dr. Seuss (I thought those were banned?!)
(And before you ask, it was a work day, so I had on a bow tie, not my sequinned night gown. :):)

And wait, Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer? Those were banned long ago, too!
And you want talk about muzzling teachers, let's talk CRT.
And books on gay marriage? What, do you want to pretend it doesn't exist in America?
All this banning makes as much sense as, "If just don't teach kids about sex, then they won't have sex."

I don't understand notion that witholding information and ideas makes children (and adults) smarter.

Both sides need to stop the banning and culture warring in school.

I don't do Twitter. And yes, Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer were banned (not all that long ago). But books with illustrations showing how to properly perform anal and oral sex are just swell! There are people fighting to preserve THAT right now in Indiana.

Sex education should be taught at an appropriate age, and as a Health issue, period. Deviant or "kinky" behaviors should not be taught to kids, period.

Teachers espousing CRT should be muzzled. That crap has no business being taught anywhere, let alone in K-12 schools. That is actively encouraging racism, and that has no place anywhere.

Why weren't you tutoring them in history or civics, or wood shop, or home economics? Oh that's right, those subjects aren't taught anymore. But yeah, school is just the same as it's always been.

Indianapolis Public Schools offer literally all of those options currently:

    1508 - Citizenship and Civics
    1562 - United States History
    4540 - Personal Financial Responsibility
    7123 - General Carpentry

They also badly need professional mentors for the Automotive, welding, and carpentry programs.

I can forward you the contact info for several of these programs at Arsenal Technical High School if you are interested in helping.

When you tutor children, do you discuss your wee-wee? Do you discuss their private parts? Do you tell the children that boys can become girls? Do you expose them to graphic pictures depicting intercourse? I can't decide if you're feigning ignorance of child sexualization or if you truly believe children should be sexualized.

There is a difference between offering and requiring. That's my point. They should be required. And I'd be interested to see the textbooks they use for Citizenship and Civics, and especially United States History.

I prefer letting parents and students decide which classes they take. I’m a bit surprised to see support for government-mandated curriculum here.

Parents don't get to decide anymore. That's why there's a bill before the Indiana legislature that would give them more say in the content of school libraries. Parents that go against the school board are shouted down and classified as terrorists. Teachers (some) are fighting tooth and nail to be able to keep their pornographic books in school libraries. In general, the overall curriculum has been dumbed down because God forbid, we don't want the little darlings to put in the effort to learn the curriculum that was always common back in my day.

Be honest. If you were a kid, and got to choose your curriculum, would you choose the easy path, or the harder (but more valuable) path?

Are you ignoring the fact that there is already mandated curriculum and that some of the mentioned classes were removed from it to make it easier for students to graduate?

That was my mom's alma mater. Around 1930... :):
Wow. I don't think I knew that it housed a school back then. The campus and some of the buildings are kinda neat. They're old, dilapidated and still had flaking lead paint in some areas. But the woodwork and other details were fantastic, if viewed for the decadence. The school itself sucked. No offense to yer mums. They didn't distribute textbooks. They didn't offer any lockers. It had a lunch hour exclusive to pregnant girls (and their baby daddy if he was inclined to go). When large fights would break out IPD (pre-merger) would just roll their patrol cars right up in the courtyard, sirens blaring and all. A couple teachers got beat down and there was a shooting in one of the parking lots. All circa mid-late '80s.
