I have here a Smith and Wesson 908. It was bought by my wife's late husband in 1998. His ffl background check is in the case.

It was stolen from their house and the serial number reported to the police. It was recovered and returned some time later after the trial. The evidence tag is in the case.

It went back to Smith and Wesson for slide and sight repairs. Her husband passed away. This is where the story gets confusing.

I thought her son bought it and sold it out from under her when she was buying it back. But she says she owned it outright and her son wanted to sell it when he thought he was going to jail. He sold it, didn't need the money after all but wouldn't buy it back and kept the money.

I knew how much the gun meant to her. She said it was the only thing she had left of him because her son sold it all. Yesterday I asked the guy If he would sell it to me. It's my wife's Christmas present. She found out about it so I gave it to her early.

Her son found out about the sale and was here today. He told me not to let anything happen to it because he wants it and even said he put money into it and has some kind of money/inheritance claim on it. Her late husband wasn't his father. He doesn't care about it or what it meant or she would have it back. He never owned it. And he's telling me he's entitled to it.

He asked to see it and my wife told him it was locked in the safe. She said he ain't going to have anything to do with that gun.

But it's not about money. Well it is for those that profited from it. It's about respect, doing the right thing, momentos, closure, grief.

I present the most important gun I ever bought. It will stay the turd it is unless the wife wants to do anything with it. But it's her turd.

Well, if he had not already done so for you, the son has showed himself for what he is, which is someone not to be trusted, especially around any of your firearms, etc.

He's just a money grubber. I make it a point not to do anything with him involving money and we can get along.

Gonna move this to the top so doddg can post pics and range results of his "new" 5906.

Anyone add anything? SSV projects? Been a little quiet here lately...

I have bid on a few but nothing has ended up in my safe.

I'm not overly familiar with these, but saw an email a bit back from AimSurplus with several for sale that seemed to have moved quickly. they had some 6906's at one point for like $349.99. But I think those are gone now.

I'm still working on my SSV Franken build. I had an issue during reassembly last year with the spurless hammer and the full size lower not going back together.

    1. Hey, my friend!
    2. Believe it or not, as I was confirming my appt. with him at 5:30 pm, he texted back that if I wanted, he would meet me at my gun range and I could put rounds through his 5906 before I bought it!
    3. This guy reminds me of myself: impeccably honest and flexible beyond belief.
    4. I like this guy.
    5. I'm going to the range early to try out a gun (boring, not worth mentioning) I bought to see if it would replace another almost exactly like it, but it is lighter and has a small hammer: the other is hammerless.
    6. Ok, since you asked: I have a Ruger LCR .357 hammerless that I loved so much (main CC) I sold my S/W 642 hammerless.
    7. I bought the LCRx .38sp to see if I would rather have it. I bought it off the guy I bought the CZ P-09 from and imagine I'll buy more in the future (prices great): like me he's just having fun (but he must have 100 guns at least).
    8. I will post the SW 5906 and let you know if it is worthy. I'll compare it to my Ruger P95 and is an unfair contest, my Bersa Thunder Pro XT. The Wizard has my Shadow but that would be unfair as well. :draw:
    9. this trimming isn't going so well: bought 2 guns in 2 days, but, of course, I'm having fun! :rockwoot:

I've added something today. Local sale.
Smith & Wesson model 745 IPSC 10th Anniversary .45 acp pistol in like new condition. It came with 4 mags. It's a target pistol with an adjustable trigger. Gen 2. The 5000 made the first year like this one has the 24k gold commemorative writing on the slide. What I know about it I'm reading in forums so it's as described in the forums. It's a beautiful gun, more ornate than the standard offerings.

You found it alright. I love that 2 tone with the wood grips. It just screams classy! Add in that it's a 45 and you're good to go. Do you plan on shooting it much?

I would love to shoot it but I'm trapped into having some that would cost me a couple hundred dollars in value if I booger it up. I think this is one for the museum. I do admire dogdg for getting out there and shooting what he has, and the pictures and reviews. Very impressive. Buy once, cry once, and put it in the safe.
