Someone mentioned police trade ins, here's 5903s for $320: Smith & Wesson Model 5903 9mm Handgun
Spent a good 3 hrs on my Houlton Maine 5946. I completely disassembled it to the bare frame, and took apart the slide minus the rear sight. I then did a detail clean, and polished metal on metal parts to slick it up seeing as its a 2013 made 3rd Gen. The slide feels pretty smooth now compared to before. Trigger pull is around 9.5lbs. I also cleaned up the 909/910 slide and lower parts. They haven't been touched in maybe a yr and half and were starting to get some surface rust.
As long as you keep the parts in a nice pile its not too bad to do. The only problem is trying to get the sights off. I did it to my 4506 to change out the sights took a few hits but the novaks came off. I just don't mess with the extractors on mine.I've considered doing the same with my 1006, but there are so many small parts in the slide that I'm anxious about trying.
I've sent a few thousand rounds through it, so it's nice and broken in, so that level of cleaning an Flitz use isn't really necessary.
I've only got 6, but will get a family photo one day when I get them all cleaned up.Someday we need a family picture of 1775usmarine's 1-3rd gen smiths...sounds enviable!
I've only got two currently. Maybe something will be up at the Fort Wayne gun show next weekend? Model 39 and a 4506 are the top priorities right now.
I haven't been to a gun show in years and years...even worth my time? Would also like to find a M39 Mosin.
I follow quite a few auctions on GB also and seem to end my bidding about 20% below the final bid...guess I'm cheap...
The majority seem to not sell; but some are reasonably fair prices even with fees. I would just prefer touch before cash!
$850 for that 1006 was probably a good price. Just a few years, I'd look at them and think "Nah' I'll buy something else...they are still cheap". Waited too long!
I recently did pass up a 3906 trade in that was super clean with 2 mags for $380. I did see a 3913 trade in from the same people for $380 with 2 mags that was clean. If you want them now better start buying now as they get hard and harder to find in 90-99%.
3913 is on the list. I am very specific in what I want...while I wouldn't call myself a "collector"; I do want them in generally uncarried condition and photos on the internet are subject to interpretation.
There is a nice 3913 on Armslist that is just up the road from me but the owner is wanting a trade and not cash. Sigh. The other problem is I am working on several other gun 'projects' and, well, I am married and not in control of my checkbook. For some reason, renovating a bathroom made more sense than buying a 50 cal Barrett with a sighting computer from a buddy of ours? I just don't understand the female thought process!!!
My very first pistol was a 457 and I regret getting rid of it. I traded it when I first moved to Indiana for a G22. I was young and just getting into guns and went after a Glock because they were the "in thing".
I love my 4566TSW
As well you should.
What a beauty!
Love those grip stocks.
