Direct would be the US sending troops/specops to do the deed. THis is Ukraine doing it with some info and equipment.
Well direct or indirect, the question is how many of their sons they'll watch come home in coffins courtesy of the United States before they decide to do something about it.

You've got a pretty expansive definition of "courtesy of the United States".

Just saying. What would we do? Is it still proxy war when there's no proxy?

Certainly difficult to imagine Americans simply shrugging it off. Granted the Russians don't have the same public consent requirements that we do, but our leaders seem awfully overconfident that they can do this openly, brag about it, and there won't be consequences.

Again, no idea what you are talking about. YOu say we are directly involved. we aren't. Pretty simple, really.

The difference is Russia started this war instead of just offing someone out of the blue (though I wasn't against Trump blasting Solemani). It serves our interests to weaken their military as much as possible.

Remember when war required a declaration by Congress?

The central state is a piece of ****.

Giving them the missiles and aiming the missiles for them sounds pretty direct to me. Do you think the family of a dead sailor would buy that rationalization and tell you "nevermind, it's all good"?
