So...After watching two videos by this all-knowing master of the gun I have came to the following conclusions:

    1. Producton 1911's suck.
    2. Wilson Combat makes the only reliably functioning and accurate 1911.
    3. Those pimp-ass affliction/tribal print t-shirts do not breathe very well or are very itchy.

I've watched a lot of his videos and can concur on point 3. As for point 1, 1911s are very popular and have a bit of a "cult" following based on a variety of reasons. This gentlemen strikes me as someone drawn to the contradiction of popularity...thus, a video outlining the lesser points of various 1911s in production these days. For point 2, I can't quite make out why he made this video. Perhaps his longtime friend got offended with the 1911 video he made and requested an interview (PR) opportunity.

Personally I find it comical that the first scene is set to a backdrop of what appears to be a precision robotic wet drill and the remainder of the video emphasizes hand fit components like their techs are iron smiths or something. I'm sure Wilson puts out a functional product but where do honesty and marketing meet?

    Yea!
no, i'm not. i am well aware of Wilson Combat and his work, which is TOP NOTCH.

My point is that I dont believe 1911s requires "artisans and craftsmen" to run reliably. Not all 1911s are created equal. But I don't think you have to spend $2500+ to get a good one either.

That's the same stuff I hear ALL THE TIME about the golden age Gibson Les Pauls. They weren't built by luthiers or craftsmen; they were built by assembly line workers. And many of them were/are fantastic instruments.

I would love to have one of those 59 bursts, but alas that will never happen.

I guess Im stuck with my 2009 58 RI Les Paul and soon I hope a lowly
    Colt 1911.

Dont forget you can get their "supergrade" built by bill wilson himself for over 5k. Sounds like snake oil flavored kool-aid to me lol.

    I believe they are testing a para usa PXT 1911 ssp. A 775ish 1911.

Here is the article from para about it. Apparently the day before they ran 1000 rounds through it as a "warm up" before the speed test. After McCormick completed his 1000 rounds they had the loaders fire another 4000 rounds through it without cleaning.

Wow, I have NEVER seen Randy Quaid fire that many bullets before! He was jerkier than Sergio Garcia before getting started. The cooldown period for him was just as ADD as the beginning. Yowsers.

You mean a quality made, tuned 1911 in the hands of a capable user is a potent weapon capable of running thousands of rounds flawlessly?

Comparing a 1911 to a G19 is like comparing an AR15 to an AK47. At some point, any reasonable person acknowledges that both weapon systems have certain advantages over the other - and which weapon is "better" comes down to personal preference and intended use.

I agree (though 775ish is in the "cheap" range for 1911's - it definitely not a Wilson Combat Custom job and one of the points of that vid is that it doesn't have to be a 2k 1911 for it to be "reliable").

I like any gun that works. I prefer springfields and para ordinance for my 1911s as well as springfields for my striker fired semi-autos (I have shot glocks 9,40,45 and liked them just fine, I just prefer the grips on the XD series). I also like revolvers and various rifles and shotguns.

I can not remember one time that I buried any of my guns in the dirt. WTF does this prove. Drive your truck in the lake and see if it likes it. The 1911 showed a trigger group lock up not a firing pin malfunction. Un-less you poured super glue in that area I can not see this failure. There is no way that much dirt could get into that area. It appeared as though the safety was engaged. I have to call Bravo Sierra.
I have a 1911 that lived through 2 wars. It saw the worst possible environments including mud and freezing. According to the "Man" that carried it in those conflicts it never failed him when he needed it. He needed it a lot. He saw this video. Called BS as well.
Carry what you are comfortable with. Carry what works for you. Spend your money wisely but make it work.
This makes me want to bury one of my pistols.....................not

You, sir, are crazy because you don't possess the level of knowledge that I have. In your video, they did not bury the 1911 in dirt! How can it be a real test without dirt?! In the real world guns get dirty and it's dirt that dirties the gun and gets it dirty!

It's obvious that you and your buddies on this site are emotionally tied to your crappy 1911's, so there is no arguing with you. You continue to post your videos of other uneducated jokers, who know nothing about the world of firearms, and I will continue to relay facts that will SAVE LIVES! He's who? I've never heard of him. Well, anyway, still, like I was saying, some 1911's are reliable and some are not, so that's just how it is! But, in the hands of an operator, any gun can be like a surgeons scalpel that cuts the life out of anyone who opposes my greatness... I mean comes up against me. Still, all 1911's are crap, but you can find a good one here and there, but mostly there, because I don't allow them over here.

After watching this when it was first released I tried bump firing my P-14. It ran like a full auto if I held onto it. Got me in a jamb at the range proving a point to a glock boy doing that. They thought I was using full auto piece but no, just my Junk, non-reliable POS Stainless P-14 Limited with a little love on the trigger. Dumped a 20 rd. mag PDQ.
Never buried that one for any reason and if you asked me to guard your junk.
