Because his gun fired and killed someone? There may well be more to the story. Don't they usually put people on leave when they're doing an investigation?

For the record, it's an AP story on ABC's website. ABC has their own stuff and stories from other news agencies.

According to the article, it was his "service" weapon....assuming that is accurate and assuming that means a standard issue, had to be an M&P. Detroit went with the M&P 40 in 2010:

According to this article, it was a S&W, carried in an IWB holster. Not really many other details about the weapon or how he was carrying it.

His shirt must've been tucked into the trigger when he holstered it, thereby pulling the trigger when his shirt was lifted. This is why I prefer safeties. But still, an IWB holster should've been pointing at the ground, unless she jumped on his back for the hug, and he leaned forward really far.
