? I am confused. Please explain.
Obama said the Civil Rights Movement failed by way of the Supreme Court not instituting a redistribution of wealth and that the Constitution is flawed because it doesn't state what the Federal Government "must do" on our behalf.
Another poster said the flaw was referring to racism...which indeed it was NOT.

The question I have, is why should we redistribute our wealth?
Are we to reward people who are not able to be successful?
We have too many welfare families to begin with.

Comrade, you do not understand correctly, therefore you will have to be re-educated by the Obama thought police. If you survive that, you will them gladly donate all your earnings to the greater good. It's patriotic, haven't you heard?

The fundamental flaw in this country, and in the Constitution, according to Obama, is racism. The failing of the civil rights movement was not fighting in the courts to get wealth to the lowest classes. It is hard to be equal when you are starting with huge disparities. Freed slaves had nothing. It is awfully hard to get something when starting with nothing. Wealth begets wealth. It was nearly impossible for black people to get anything when they started with nothing AND had to fight racist business owners.

To repeat, racism is the fundamental flaw in the Constitution. Obama thinks one way to help get over it is to provide a base for the lowest classes to start from.

How much money do you have to make to be middle class these days? All of these references to middle class and I don't know what that is anymore.

Capitalism is a redistribution of wealth. Taxes, all of them, are redistributions of wealth. Tax breaks for oil companies are redistributions of wealth. Tax breaks for pharmaceutical companies are redistributions of wealth. The current system redistributes our collective wealth up. Our $600 per person economic stimulus check from earlier this year was a redistribution of wealth. You are okay with some redistributions but not others? Where is your line?

Were you screaming socialism when our economic stimulus checks were mailed this spring? Were you screaming socialism when the government effectively socialized major banks and the mortgage industry within the last month?

Why are you okay with redistributing our wealth up to a chosen few who already have the majority of wealth?

Absolute, unadulterated, class warfare rubbish. Letting companies or individuals keep THEIR money that THEY earned through selling goods and services is NOT redistribution of wealth. Giving individuals or companies tax money collected from OTHER individuals or companies that the first group did NOT earn and did not pay into IS redistribution of wealth. There is a huge difference.

YES, YES, and hell YES. Read my posts on that damned "bailout." I don't believe in socialism for you, me, the guy down the street or for supermegabank.

Taxing one group at one rate and another at a different rate doesn't redistribute wealth? You pay 80% taxes and I will pay 20%. Let's see what that does to our comparative wealth.

I am glad to hear that. I stayed out of the bailout threads because I was too irritated about the whole mess to post anything remotely coherent.

What a crock of crap. Multiple Trillions have been poured in "to provide a base for the lowest classes to start from." I love the schtick of fighting racism by giving race-based payments. Class warfare nonsense that has been tried, failed, tried again, failed again, the world over. You don't get a leg up by getting everyone else down. It's a evil, sinister world view that relies on coercion, force and pervasive government control to make anyone go along with it.
