"Molon labe" is a statement of self defense/preservation, which is justified under English common law.

Your attempt to apply moral equivalence is straight out of the progressive play book.

Well, first, the issue was not moral equivalence (although I'm more than happy to talk about that).

So here's a harsh reality: the justification for "self defense" also works both ways. Facing a perceived threat is very much subjective. (Here in the US, we try to make it objective - most of the time - by glomming on a "reasonable" component.) At the end of the day, though, it tends to be in the eye of the beholder.

But here's a fun question, in the spirit of Molon Labe, does the carrier of that bumper sticker get to shoot first if he thinks they are coming for his guns?

Second, "moral equivalence" has a far longer history than "progressive" does. There's basically one play book that "both" sides use. The left just tends to have certain pages bookmarked more than others.

One only needs to watch the news to see that the progressives, socialist....or demoncrats are throwing punches, burning cars, tipping over statues, mailing ricin.....hmmm.....how far down the road do we need to go?

The left can have as many guns as they want and support the same for everyone. The size, capacity, length, color and how scary it is will be very restricted. One shot BB guns will be allowed under direct supervision of the demoncrats.

Pop tarts in the shape of any gun will be a felony, along with any scary looking gun printed on clothing.
