This. How courteously we treat liberty of opinion around here will speak volumes about how we truly value our freedom of speech.
We can discuss and, yes... even play nicely.
I voted for Obama

Ron hasn't done anything more than express points of view which may not be popular here. Telling him to go shut up is disrespectful and uncalled for.

he made statements in a hit and run post. he did not explain anything about why he believes those statements. he knew full well what he was getting into. but I do agree about telling him to shutup being uncalled for. I for one want nothing more than some good dialogue on this subject simply because there is none here. what a better way to convert a liberal than to find out why he believes what he believes.
1. I don't think all Muslims are terrorists. I think extremists on either side are likely to be terrorists. I think you have to be "extreme" even for your run-of-the-mill extremists to be a likely terrorist, otherwise a fair statement.
2. I'm pro-choice. The slogan "Keep your laws off my body" resonates strongly with me, and keeps me from falling firmly in the pro-life camp. I am only in favor of abortion if the mother is in danger, but only so long as there is a firm medical standard for it. I mean if it's pretty damn sure that momma is going to die from carrying the baby, well, a dead mother doesn't do an unborn child a lick of good. I don't agree with this "mental health" BS.
3. I don't think the sky is falling and don't believe that hyperinflation will occur in the near future. OK, but to pull that off we need an immediate and almost total freeze of all federal spending, or an astronomical tax rate.
4. I think climate change is happening and that humans share some of the responsibility for that. Did you notice that there was a huge and scientifically proven problem with "global warming" until the global temperature started dropping and it became "climate change"? Or that it was barely a blip on the news radar when the laboratory Al Gore gets his data from realized last fall that the international temperature data used in their models wasn't even the temp data from the correct month?
5. I think evolution is as good of a theory as the theory of gravity. OK.
6. Let gays marry, why not? I'll just put a big +1 on the whole "get government out of the marriage business" viewpoint. It isn't fair to say that gays can't take advantage of the tax and insurance incentives that come with the "married" status when a gay couple can form just as firm or chaotic a bond as any straight couple. Either remove the tax incentives for straight married people, or devise a method to give the actuarial benefits to gay couples who have "settled down".
7. I don't think Ron Paul is that awesome, yes he has some good ideas but he has just as many wacky ones. I'm with you there. He's a smart guy, and his speeches start with some great ideas but then he just keeps going further and further off the deep end.
8. I don't think there is a liberal bias in the media as much the media is just stupid and irrelevant lately. I won't say there's a huge, organized, malicious agenda in most instances, but to say there's no bias is unfathomable to me.
9. I don't think taxation is that horrible. You lost me on this one. For a second I thought you said that taxation wasn't that horrible.
10. I like the idea of "socialized" healthcare. See #9

I agree that Ron should have given more than a drive by, but sometimes a one-time drive by is sufficient to get them to return if the experiences is not what they expected. Many people just don't know how to talk/interact on a forum and just don't operate like they should. I'd prefer we give him the benefit of the doubt prior to deeming him a troll and writing him off first.
It's a shame to be written off for doing nothing more than making an unpopular and unsupported opinion once.
