I didnt vote for Obama, but I like some liberal view points. I am for education and social spending. I like EXTENDED healthcare, not necessarily socialized however.

I think that one thing that needs to be pointed out regarding Muslims is that the Quran (spelling folks, spelling) says nothing about killing in regards to Jihad. Jihad is the spread of Islam. Believe what Rush wants you to believe, but that is how it is actually interpreted and inacted. HOWEVER, it is the radicals that twist Islam to get folks to join their murderous crusades (mostly as they are cowardly to do it themselves) that give it the murderous denotation. They read the Quran, but then give their views of what it should be, plus couple that with the general illiteracy of some Islamic nations, they hold what the nutcase says is true.

Nothing anti gun said, but that is a good thing. Means the OP is willing to defend their right to free speach, enjoys their views, but will fight to the death to defend them. It is difficult to find a liberal that is against gun control. Celebrate it. Plus, this nation was founded on people having intellectual discourse. Discourse, despite what people think it to be (once again, connotation), is simply organized and free exchange of ideas. We aren't here to "pound it into their heads" or "show them they are wrong". Hell, I tolerate those against abortion and I dont sit here and point out they are wrong, but those who are against seem to want to call my position wrong.

The nation is crumbling and quickly following the social situation of France before WW2. We are letting extremes begin to run the nation. We need more moderates, both sides of the aisle. France crumbled during WW2 as they let ultra liberal and ultra conservatives have rampant run of the government. While nothing completely wrong, nothing got done. No ORGANIZED (the Maginot doesnt count) defense of France could be enacted as quibbling in their government halls prevented action and crippled the military. Having a closed mind and inaction to understand that there are others out there and other view points (solipsism), then we are doomed to live someone ELSE'S doomed history.

My two cents, adjusted HEAVILY for inflation! :D

Since you're obviously looking to compare notes, here are mine.

    Ron in Black.
    Paco in Red.

    1. I don't think all Muslims are terrorists. I think extremists on either side are likely to be terrorists.
I agree. Not all Christians were Crusaders. Let each stand for his crimes. Do not carpet bomb.
    2. I'm pro-choice.
    That's a very general stance.
My Stance is that the FEDERAL government shouldn't be involved. Beyond that, I don't have a vagina, so I don't care. I do believe the morning-after pill to be perfectly acceptable.

    3. I don't think the sky is falling and don't believe that hyperinflation will occur in the near future.
I hope you're right. You might want to buy a few gallons of water just in case analysts & history are right though.
    4. I think climate change is happening and that humans share some of the responsibility for that.
Do you truly believe that humans effect the Earth more than our Sun's irregular cycle? Do ya think, just maybe, that a few degrees difference is a normal event in our planet's & solar system's cycle?

I do think we need to take reasonable steps to curb the various types of pollution & deforestation we perpetrate. I do not think we need to enter into entangling treaties to accomplish this.

    5. I think evolution is as good of a theory as the theory of gravity.
I agree that evolution is real. I also challenge you to tell me where all of the matter in the universe came from & why it banged. I believe that evolution is the rule-set God has created for His game of life.
    6. Let gays marry, why not?
Remind me why our governments are involved in marriage? Tracking & control? Oh yeah.

MY marriage is a Christian marriage. We did have it rubber-stamped by the state, but only because I was 20 at the time & that was the way things are done. I don't know that I would do it differently today, but I think we need to push this government control out of our lives.

As far as same sex lifestyles go, I don't care. Do not expect me to accept it as normal & do not expect special treatment. I really don't care what your private parts do for vocation or hobby, so long as it's mutually (or group) consensual.

    7. I don't think Ron Paul is that awesome, yes he has some good ideas but he has just as many wacky ones.
My opinion is that Ron Paul, if viewed correctly by history, may just be the greatest American politician of our time.

You apparently believe that Liberty is just the name of some green chick in New York.

If you could, please, enumerate Dr. Paul's ideas which you believe to be 'wacky'.

    8. I don't think there is a liberal bias in the media as much the media is just stupid and irrelevant lately.
I believe that corporate media is being controlled by the same people who are controlling lobbyists & most television programming. <insert NWO conspiracy here>

I nearly rolled over in my own grave when I read Rupert Murdoch's confession about biasing his news coverage to support his political beliefs.

What more can I say? Bias exists.

    9. I don't think taxation is that horrible.
    Which taxation? All of it?

Do you really believe you should be taxed on your income when you earn it, when you save it, & when you spend it? The same money is taxed a minimum of two times if you live paycheck to paycheck. If you spend your money on things which a city council, state congress, or capitol hill deems "a sin", then you pay even more taxes on the money you've already been taxed on.

    10. I like the idea of "socialized" healthcare.
I do too. I do not like the hair-brained methods which have been proposed to achieve it. I also don't like the fact that huge corporations are raking in money hand-over-fist by prolonging treatments & not seeking cures.

On the one hand, it's inhumane to believe someone should die because they can't afford care. On the other hand, it's ridiculous to think that I should have to pay enormous sums for extreme attempts to prolong an obviously failing life.

I personally believe that limits on malpractice claims & government oversight over the medical billing & insurance industries would go a long way toward making medical care easily affordable for most citizens.

As it is, the insurance provided by my small employer, if I elected to pay for it, would cost my wife & I $4200 per year, with a $2500 deductable, each, before receiving any benefits. There is also no prescription coverage available. I choose to not pay for this coverage & trust that my family & friends will be there if I truly need them & I'll pay whichever hospital I may be in debt to as much as I can manage for the rest of my life, if necessary. But $9200/yr (including deductables) is ridiculous & I won't pay it.

Those of you who currently have good coverage are in for a rude awakening if you lose your tenured positions with large companies.

Reform is needed. Standing in 3 mile long lines for anti-biotics is not.

Edit: I wanted to add that I think long-standing medical patents are unethical & a sizable reason for enormous medical expenses.

Ron hasn't done anything more than express points of view which may not be popular here. Telling him to go shut up is disrespectful and uncalled for.

he made statements in a hit and run post. he did not explain anything about why he believes those statements. he knew full well what he was getting into. but I do agree about telling him to shutup being uncalled for. I for one want nothing more than some good dialogue on this subject simply because there is none here. what a better way to convert a liberal than to find out why he believes what he believes.

I agree that Ron should have given more than a drive by, but sometimes a one-time drive by is sufficient to get them to return if the experiences is not what they expected. Many people just don't know how to talk/interact on a forum and just don't operate like they should. I'd prefer we give him the benefit of the doubt prior to deeming him a troll and writing him off first.

It's a shame to be written off for doing nothing more than making an unpopular and unsupported opinion once.

he made statements in a hit and run post. he did not explain anything about why he believes those statements. he knew full well what he was getting into. but I do agree about telling him to shutup being uncalled for. I for one want nothing more than some good dialogue on this subject simply because there is none here. what a better way to convert a liberal than to find out why he believes what he believes.

    1. I don't think all Muslims are terrorists. I think extremists on either side are likely to be terrorists. I think you have to be "extreme" even for your run-of-the-mill extremists to be a likely terrorist, otherwise a fair statement.
    2. I'm pro-choice. The slogan "Keep your laws off my body" resonates strongly with me, and keeps me from falling firmly in the pro-life camp. I am only in favor of abortion if the mother is in danger, but only so long as there is a firm medical standard for it. I mean if it's pretty damn sure that momma is going to die from carrying the baby, well, a dead mother doesn't do an unborn child a lick of good. I don't agree with this "mental health" BS.
    3. I don't think the sky is falling and don't believe that hyperinflation will occur in the near future. OK, but to pull that off we need an immediate and almost total freeze of all federal spending, or an astronomical tax rate.
    4. I think climate change is happening and that humans share some of the responsibility for that. Did you notice that there was a huge and scientifically proven problem with "global warming" until the global temperature started dropping and it became "climate change"? Or that it was barely a blip on the news radar when the laboratory Al Gore gets his data from realized last fall that the international temperature data used in their models wasn't even the temp data from the correct month?
    5. I think evolution is as good of a theory as the theory of gravity. OK.
    6. Let gays marry, why not? I'll just put a big +1 on the whole "get government out of the marriage business" viewpoint. It isn't fair to say that gays can't take advantage of the tax and insurance incentives that come with the "married" status when a gay couple can form just as firm or chaotic a bond as any straight couple. Either remove the tax incentives for straight married people, or devise a method to give the actuarial benefits to gay couples who have "settled down".
    7. I don't think Ron Paul is that awesome, yes he has some good ideas but he has just as many wacky ones. I'm with you there. He's a smart guy, and his speeches start with some great ideas but then he just keeps going further and further off the deep end.
    8. I don't think there is a liberal bias in the media as much the media is just stupid and irrelevant lately. I won't say there's a huge, organized, malicious agenda in most instances, but to say there's no bias is unfathomable to me.
    9. I don't think taxation is that horrible. You lost me on this one. For a second I thought you said that taxation wasn't that horrible.
    10. I like the idea of "socialized" healthcare. See #9

Reps to Ron for not folding to our local brand of groupthink. One additional question I would like to ask is, what is your current perception of Obama's policies and performance? Are there any areas you do not agree with him?

How courteously we treat liberty of opinion around here will speak volumes about how we truly value our freedom of speech.

We can discuss and, yes... even play nicely.

Well put. If you don't like Ron's opinions, open a dialogue, don't bash.

As recently as 18 months ago, I was with Ron on a lot of those opinions & didn't understand why anyone who lived in a nice neighborhood would want a firearm...

It was primarily Ron Paul's campaign & following last year's election on the POTUS XM Station (bought a new car that had XM with that station for free) that changed my world view & helped me to solidify my opinion on things I feel are important.

My wife's trying to keep up

But, intelligent people's opinions change when they're presented with intelligent arguments. Always keep that in mind.

I gave him that benefit but honestly he knew he would be vilified for that post and had no rebuttal if your gonna do something like that you had better stay and explain yourself. which at this point, if it looks like a duck... ;)
