Ingomike. He believes that they only prevent transmission in hamsters. You can judge how seriously to take him.

It is well known that hamsters are dirty ****ing liberals. None of them work, they just hang around waiting to be fed. It's obvious that masks need to be tested on a more conservative animal that actually has a ****ing job, like a police K9 or a carrier pigeon. (As long it's a private carrier pigeon and not a GD communist socialist US Postal pigeon that should be allowed to fail)

But it's unlikely that we will ever be able to test masks on dogs, because obviously dogs aren't sheep.

    :)

I believe it does if a proper filter mask. standard cloth? maybe not. BUT, having a cloth mask on would limit you touching your face so there's probably benefit there.

can't wait for home made rope seat belts to come out. they can even look like normal seat belts. probably help "some", and be better than nothing

My anecdotal observations are the opposite, the untrained, wearing poorly fitted masks are constantly touching them and their face, then touching everything under the sun. I believe that this poor mask wear transmits about as much as it stops.

Is there anybody here that doesn't believe wearing a real mask reduces transmission of airborne viruses including the chinese virus to some degree by trapping the virus particles in the filter material?

    A virus is 20nm to 400nm.

An N95 rated mask that is gasket sealed to your face (none of you are doing this) can filter down to 300nm at best. And I've only seen 1 or 2 people wearing a rated mask during this whole pandemic.

A mask made of fishnet would accomplish the same exact thing. I think most people have trouble comprehending how things on this scale actually work. Cough or sneeze into your shirt, if you want to be polite, the mask is theater.

Remember, a mask works both ways. If it can't filter out enough to keep you from catching it, it can't filter out enough to prevent you from spreading infection either.

To those that advocate required mask use, please explain what mask use will be required for going forward.

will we require it for flu? Colds? Or just what the media thinks we should wear one for?

What are the limits once we start this?

GOP governor offers emotional plea to the anti-mask crowd: Stop this senseless culture war

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/05/23/doug-burgum-masks/

“I would really love to see in North Dakota that we could just skip this thing that other parts of the nation are going through where they’re trading a divide — either it’s ideological or political or something — around masks versus no mask,” Burgum said. “This is a, I would say, senseless dividing line, and I would ask people to try to dial up your empathy and your understanding.”

I am talking about hearing that message FROM conservatives. Its why I think the left is winning the messaging battle.

That is the standard ideology of the Left. They give less than conservatives because they give for their benefit, not others. A combination of tax deduction and social approval encourages them to give. Take either one away and giving drops.

Conservatives tend to give to assist others. They are more generous because they give with an eye to what they can spare rather than how they can maximize their own benefit of tax deduction and social approval. They give for others, not for themselves.

Conservatives support food banks and Heifer International; Liberals support higher taxes so the less sophisticated who cannot find loopholes will support parks and museums.

It's all a matter of looking at others or looking at yourself.

I vote for no requirements whatsoever. That is a separate control issue and has nothing to do with the fact that they reduce transmission.

That's not entirely true. A mask can certainly reduce the amount and trajectory of exhaled virus.

When I was a kid, my dad had a number of friends who played hockey in the Detroit area. None of em wore masks back then.

I don't remember many of them with a full set of teeth, either. But, it could have been just bad hygiene.

I'm not sure what that has to do with the argument for/against masks. But there are way too many keyboard warriors hurling insults at "others". One of those "others" might just open a can of whupass if you said it to em in public.

But, I'm sure it's safe to insult from your SIP computer.

Terry Sawchuk didn't wear a mask and he was a goalie in the NHL.
