The tourniquet pouch on the sling is kinda cool, except that it fires the tourniquet way out of your reach. :) Also, Murphy's law says that you'll come prepared with a tourniquet on the gun, and end up taking a round in the head or chest. :ugh:

I personally wouldn't make all the same choices that Jeff advocates, but he generally gives sound advice here, and I enjoy watching his videos.

I agree with most of what he says. I like Magpul MOE handguards over a quad rail. I did add a MVG just the other day. A light is a must in my opinion. Do not care for ready mags either. I think it adds unneeded weight and throws off the balance of the rifle. My AR would be a last resort weapon for me to grab for SD in my apartment. I do like the Gunfighter charging handles. I also like the MOE stock, as well as the Houge grips. As for a sling, I like a 3 point with adjustable buckle.

i found it odd that he had a stag AR

May have had a similar reaction if this rifle wasn't given to Jeff for free. Stag is basically the commercial sales front for CMT, who manufactures a number of outsourced components for AR manufactures that many consider top quality. They are good rifles, and their plus package has pretty much all the desireable mil-spec features. It's been completely reliable under hard use and stag customer service has been top notch. Using this rifle as a demo gun, it gets abused and they haven't given us any problem replacing parts we've damaged or worn out free of charge.

So, no complaints here. The gun just runs and you can't beat the price Jeff paid for it.

Solid advice in this video. The only thing that I dont necessarily agree with is running the charging handle from the bolt open position. If you open the bolt to the hold open position and then use the charging handle to pull the bolt back the rest of the way, there is only a very small distance the bolt moves rearward before it is fully back.

I used to run the charging handle until an instructor had us do exactly that and I find that the extra motion is a waste (in my opinion) when you have the option of just sending the bolt home with the bolt release as you get the mag seated.

Of course if you are trying to build manipulation commonality between weapon systems I see the merit. However, commonality between weapons, with respect to manipulation, becomes a non issue with good training.

Just my take on it. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
