No question that people will 'find me' but they will also find every other rural house, in every other rural area too.

Mine will be a harder target than some, but realistically no different than any of the small farms, homesteads, etc that exist on rural roads all over this and every other state.

If lighting strikes and my house goes up in flames I'll move into the guest house we are starting construction on soon. I have multiple buildings for shelter now, the guest house will formalize it.

    On 2d thought:

    1. I'll stash the coins in the BOB, and my next 9 items are:
    2. Pistol-belt w/ 6 canteens of water ... actually 2-liter pop jugs, easily
disposed of, and don't leave a "trail", drink-tube installed.
    3. C/B Multi-band radio with GPS.
    4. Binocs w/ built-in range-finder.
    5. An extra pr of comfortable shoes.
    6. A 5th or more of Jack, for dealing with encountered "locals."
    7. Pup-tent which is easily set up, but can be easily abandoned.
    8. Machete or equivalent.
    9. My Bible, and a copy of Shakespear's plays.
    10. Secret.

Oh, BTW, a question: Is our BOB a hand-carry-unit,
or a back-pack? My BOB is a backpack. It is divided
in three separate compartments that can be divided
for rapid evasion, or leaving as "come back" equipment
later in the SHTF scenario. I got it from Sportsman's Guide
last year for $55, in black only. It weighs 3 lbs, and is
    12" x 24" x 40", a lot of capacity for the money and weight.
My AR- fits in Velcro inside it with muzzle up. My hands
are always free for other manipulations. Full M.

    1. Good Bush Knife with fire steel lanyard
    2. water bottle with filter in it (yeah i can make one, but its good for speed)
    3. Tomahawk (i dont wrap mine with 550 cord because when i throw it i like it to just slide out of my hand)
    4. 100' 550 cord with inner strands
    5. tritium compass
    6. rifle
    7. Otis multi-caliber weapon cleaning kit.
    8. mosquito net
    9. milsurp poncho
    10. duct tape rolled flat. 6'

notice I have no pack listed. thats because i can make a pack with the items listed above, or from items i find along the way. Technicaly, I dont even need all of the above. If I whittled it down to 4 items it would be the: Knife w/ fire steel lanyard, 550 cord, tomahawk, duct tape. You could live indeffinately with this stuff. the most important thing is the knife. if i had to only take one thing it would be the knife.

Agree with the knife. If only one item it would be my Ka-Bar. Two items would be Ka-Bar + 550. Everything else could be procured along the way.

You never know what you will stumble on when you have people who realize that carrying a 100lb. pack is not as easy as one may think.

I remember backpacking in the Wind River Ranger for 8 days at a time with the family and I was the "pack mule" carrying 80lb in my back because of small kids and carrying their load. Definitely know the next day you put it back on!!!!

Honest question........I didn't see where anyone listed something to sharpen their knives or hawks. How would you go about keeping an edge?

First, the cities will eat themselves. Then, it's to the country.

better get some concertina wire to encircle your property. it will be hard to stop a few hundred or a thousand people who want in. they will eventualy find you and by that time they might be well organized and armed. even the masses wont care if your shooting back and dropping them left and right, they will keep coming because they no longer have anything to lose that they arent gonna lose if they dont try. You might already have plans in place (i hope) to combat this at first, but theres no way you will win a long seige if they realy want in. Its great that some people are fortunate (some by design) to have a place to stay (bug in), but you also need to be prepared to bug out. If lightning strikes your house and starts a fire in the middle of the night then you need to be ready to go and still be sustainable. I'm not attacking you or trying t say your not prepared. Im just throwing this out there for everyone. because youd be suprised at the number of people who think they are prepared beause they have land, but are actualy less prepared than those who dont have any land.
I am bugging in, but am prepared to Bail Out. I'm a member of a sect of survivalists, and we called these marauding thieves, "The Carnivore Caravan." Vehicles cruising our neighborhoods, with out-of-town plates, Fellas with differing ethnicity from us, cruising by at 5MPH, and basically looking for lights or smoke. Food and sex will be co-located. A word to the wise. Full M.

nature man, nature. plenty of ways to sharpen them and just as effective as retail methods. unless your like tyler34 and can use your blades edge as a mirror, lol

I just a use a sharpening stone on my knives. I've found that with patience I can put a usable edge on a knife using a rock and I have been able to sharpen a filet knife back to fish-cleaning sharp using a coffee mug or a drinking glass. Its all about patience and knowing what you are doing.
