I bought this little compact the friday here is what I have done to it so far. Nice little pistol I ordered a srping tune up kit and I will be ready to test it out.
I painted the entire gun black then polished the flats.
I still a have a little polishing to do to make the thumb safety and the slide release texture match.
But I am happy with it so far.
Basically just showing off new carry pistol:)

Holy crap dude! I've been a combat/tactical tupperware kinda guy since I started getting back into shooting lately (january or so), and ever since I have been more and more attracted to 1911's. ( So much so I am considering calling colt and trying to reserve a century piece) Anyway back on topic; that thing is SICK.
And please answer the nice gentleman's question, What'd you use for paint?

Just a wild guess here, but I'm bettin' AllenM knows his paint.

Better figure out how much yer chargin' for that service Allen. One of these days I'm gonna throw mine on the ground and kick gravel onto it. After that it's coming to you.

What did you paint it with?

I went outside the box and am trying to find what will work best for durability even if I have to invest in some equipment to do some really nice work.
I want to do work for others and with the 1911's I am pretty confident in my skill level expecially on trigger work, installing sights and accuracy tuning. But the stumbling block is refinishing.
I have treid KG gunkote on a differant pistol and it didn't strike me as being anymore durable then the paint we us daily so this is really a test since I knew I would be carring this gun I figured that would tell how well this holds up.
But basically it is automotive paint with an etching primer (it's rated at over 300 mph:) ). It adhears good I can't scratch it off so if wear is good that will open up endless possiblities for custom colors and designs particularly if it won't be a duty pistol.
I really feel though that there will be much better solutions for a carry gun but I was really curious so I did this. This will be a learning pistol and it really isn't hard to bead blast this and start over if it doesn't work out.
I would like to be able to do bluing and other finishes even if it means some special equipment. I will get to that point I am just fooling around right now.

What kind of spring tune up kit did you get? Was the intent maintenance or improvement?

It was just matienance, the gun is a lttle older so I figured wouldn't hurt.
I bought a set of wolff springs ie: Recoil, firing pin and mainspring.
Plus I could tell someone had put a soft mainspring in it giving it to light of trigger pull for a carry gun.

    Paint?

I almost bought some engine enamel, but instead went with dunking it in a bath.

You mentioned it's automotive; do you have brand and such handy? I'd like to know how it holds up. I wear out bluing pretty quickly.

    Thanks,

    Josh <><

It's a dupont paint but I am not going to be satisfied with it and looking into better ways of doing this. I found a couple of websites that sell equipment for firearm refinishing.
I just need to decide which way to go first. Then raise funds ;)

    Ok, here's one for you:

Strip using 1 part HCl and 1 part water.

Rinse in water. Degrease and polish.

Mix 2 parts lye, 1 part potassium nitrate, and 6 parts water. Bring to 300*F. Submerge frame and slide into the bath and keep an eye on it.

Pull it out, dunk in oil while hot, let it cool. Rub with oil again, let sit overnight, rub dry, and reassemble.
