The discussion in the article is about voluntary background/NICS checks for private sales. Background/NICS is on a person, the buyer. It has nothing to do with any firearm. Assuming the sale is not interstate, why must an FFL take possession of the firearm before running NICS for two people involved in a private sale?

Virginia Gov McAuliffe signed the legislation establishing reciprocity with all other states yesterday. I'm on my phone and having trouble getting the story link to copy, so you'll have to google it yourself.

That is great news! I occasionally travel there to see my wife's family in Roanoke. I was going to curtail those visits because they are a bunch of damned yayhoos and I didn't feel safe around them when unarmed. (Totally kidding!! My wife is watching me type this!)

I'm glad I can now put VA back on the list of honorable places to visit!

Isn't Roanoke part of northern Virginia? :):

Because they are required to do so as part of their FFL or risk losing it.
Right, Pudly. It is no different than a FFL transferring a gun from an out-of-state seller to the buyer he's dealing with. The FFL doesn't put the gun into his system but it has to go into his A&D book because when he calls or types it in to ATF he is given an "NTN" number that must be put on the 4473 and maintained in his files.
