So, I have surgery on March 6th. But the surgeon isn't optimistic about me ever comfortably shooting a long gun again.

Sorry to hear about the doctor's guess on your ability to shoot a long gun again.
I've seen you shoot a pistol left handed, try that with the rife if all else fails. You shoot the pistol good from the left.
