Yup, I am finishing my vacation tonite. And instead of cleaning up the garage, or doing paperwork, I'm spending it with you guys online. :)

I saw the news about the strike earlier. I don't know the details so I won't pass judgment. Hubby worked union most of his life and the union is good to us...not steelworkers, but union just the same. I just hope it doesn't last long and doesn't have a big impact on the gas prices we have enjoyed. It is $2.31 all around us...up from what we were seeing at least 50 cents a gallon.

I think a lot of people are upset at the union.
But, my take is, that the company is using the cost of gas, and impending Healthcare tax to try to break the union.

I am retired from the union. 18 years out of the local. Last 6 years self employed. My union pension is not enough on its own but it is good to have.

My union lost it's balls. Lost it's way. Lost sight of what it was in place for.
The contractors were running it when I left.

    I agree

hubby has been union since he got out of the Marine Corps. This is his first job that isn't union in all those years. He's seeing how nice it really was. Not just benefits and pay etc. Safety and **** as well. He uses a grinder all night on steel, says the lighting in the place is not even comparable to poor garage lighting. no sitting, period, except on break. he has no idea where, or if, there is an eye wash station. 1 toilet, 1 drinking fountain, and they get watched if they walk away from the job to use either.
Has to have a hard hat and safety glasses, he has to buy them. Metatarsal boots, he had to buy.
no discounts on anything. Hes sticking with it until something better comes along. Now we're praying for something better.
