I work in a steel mill.
Lotta guys look rough and tough. Then have multi-degrees and have pics of them playing "house" with their daughters.
rough and tough don't bother me

so this morning hubby and I had to go downtown
we were driving west on Washington St towards downtown. They had the right lane closed, flashing lights etc. Could see it wayyyyy back.
So we are in the left lane, waiting patiently to get through it. Gal comes flying up in the right lane. Flipped her turn signal on when she was almost in front of us and started to pull over. Hubby didn't give an inch and actually kept driving forward. She almost hit us trying to get over. Then she flips us off. good example of why I really need out of this city. the anger is getting stupid.
I am not reading the threads but how can falling oil prices effect steel production.
US Steel Lorain (Ohio) - Tubular Operations Manufacturing Facility
The U. S. Steel mills #3 and #4 at the Lorain, Ohio manufacturing facility produce high-quality seamless pipe used in oil and gas exploration and production as well as the construction industry.
The Lorain facilities have an annual production capacity of 780,000 net tons of oil country tubular goods (OCTG), casing and drill pipe, standard and line pipe, and coupling stock.
Both mills produce high quality seamless pipe: range 3 casing and range 2 tubing, with the #3 mill producing large outside diameter (OD) pipe ranging from 10-1/8” to 26” and the #4 mill producing smaller OD pipe from 1-9/10” to 4-1/2”.
==============================
Tubular steel is used in oil and gas exploration.
Guess what doesn't happen when gas/oil prices drop.
Makes sense.
So us getting a much needed break of gas pricing is hurting others.

Mouse,
And it's not just the tubular ops.
Campbells soup used to be a big customer.
Less cans are being made. More frozen stuff. More canned stuff going to plastic.
Ford was a BIG, and in B friggin I friggin G friggin, customer.
Because I work for a company that stupidly spends money on 100 CHEAP TV sets to show stuff to "motivate" us, then 6 months later, most of the TVs are BURNT out, because they were never meant to be used 24/7/365 in a MILL environment,
Yet, I can't get 1/4 inch bolts..........
So we lost the FORD orders.

The problem is, the deflation of gas prices is probably not permanent.
Just enough to stop us from exploring/drilling/fracking.
We stop, and guess what will happen 6 months later.
Prices will go up.
Exploration/drilling/fracking will need to be picked back up.
And China will be there to save the day.
For a cost.
Isn't that the way of the economy, when it is good for one, it is bad for another.
I'm not upset about the gas prices.
I'm worried, or upset, about the reason.
If it were the wave of the future, it would be great.
But all this is, is what China did to the steel industry at the end of the Clinton era.
Dumped steel in the States for less than it cost even China to make.
Steel was subsidized by their government. Mills were even made by their government.
19 steel mills went bankrupt in the US.
Then, China stopped dumping their steel over here.
Then the cost of steel SOARED.
Because there were 19 less companies making it.
Those companies were viable.
Till a country intentionally took them out.
This oil manipulation is the same thing.
Temporarily, it's great.
WE are our own worst enemy's.
Ford is making the truck body's out of aluminum now.
Yep... love getting new things. I'd be interested in seeing/hearing about that 80% build. I'd love to do one at some point in my life
