Susan needs to let go. Does she not see or care the stresses and strain this is causing you?
I may be over a line somewhere in my saying this and will stand own if I am, but I have seen this before. I would be pressing they go back to the real father. It is the best for those kids. It's not about the adults.
If he presses it, he will get them. You don't want that fight around the boys. They need stability and love.

. I am all about the stability of the children. Growing up under the dictatorship of a serious dickhead and a depressed mother I see it. Kids need love and guidance. Those boys need their dad.

OK I have said my piece.
    I will shut up now.
You're not over the line at all my friend! I agree with everything you said. And Susan does see (and feel) the stress that the boys are putting on us both. She's worried that she won't get to see them if he moves them to California. I've reassured her that she will be able to fly out whenever she wants, and with enough advance planning it's not that expensive. She was used to having to go out there at the drop of a hat when Amie was still alive, so of course tickets and lodging were all at a premium.

And I also agree that the boys deserve better than having two old grumpy people trying to raise them. They need someone that can be fully involved and engaged with them, and that takes someone younger than us. And boys should have their father in their lives.
