When I was a wee lad, my dad told me to clean the birdcage, or cut the grass.
I asked him what he would pay me.
He told me, "I'll let you live here another day". The man knows how to bargain.

Later on when I was an adult, that came up.
He told me, he debated paying me. But then he was going to charge me for room rental, and for food. And it would have costs more than the pay I made.
I'm glad he went with option 1.

I hear you there. The original series had seven books, the first one was good but I forced myself to read the second and third ones before I had enough. It wasn't fun reading. The expanded series has a boatload more books and short stories - way more material than I have interest.
Don't know squat about the movies.
