How come I can't see these pics?
If the earth were the size of a grape, then the Sun would be 5 ft in diameter, about a block away. Saturn would be the size of an orange around 1 mile away. The nearest star would be over 25,000 miles away.
The mind boggles
Uhhh correct me if I am wrong but wouldn't the nearest star be one block away? IIRC our sun is a star is it not?
You would be correct, if the Sun had not been mentioned, THEN the star mentioned.. :-D
Sheesh, and my wife says *I* am a nit-picker, lol.
No, not until just now!
Are you trying to tell everyone something about yourself???
The universe is too big of a thing for a lot of people to wrap their minds around.
I tried to explain infinity to my kid one time. I approached it from the
your in a room standpoint. I said ok if the universe is this room, what is
outside the room?? He said something like another room, so I said, what is
past that room??
∞
Not my quote but "Not only is the universe stranger than you imagine, It's
stranger than you can possibly imagine."
SO true. My wife thinks I am weird because I sometimes just star up at the stars and ....think. Contemplate. Things like, the light from the closest star (besides the Sun, lol) is over 4 years old. That star could have exploded 4 years ago, and we wouldn't know it yet.
One of the farrthest object visible to the naked eye is the Andromeda Galaxy, at 2.5 million light years. WOW.
