Traditional enemies? I don't know that any nation could be considered a traditional enemy.I wouldn't vote for Bernie nor Warren, and AOC seems to be wanting to create an entire new party of her own. So yeah, I agree the face of the Democrat party is changing; but the face of the Republican Party has changed. No longer is it the party of family values, morality, fiscal conservatism, combating the spread of evil regimes. It is now the party that shows felty to an immoral spender who admires, covets, and defends the tyrannical power of most of America's traditional enemies. In another time, Republicans could rightfully point to the "other" party, and rightfully assign those traits solely to them; now, they are just as bad.
We had 50 years opposing the USSR. Russia is not in the same category of opposition that their predecessor was. 50 or even 70 years does not make much of a tradition.
China, NK, and Iran have been more adversarial in recent history. I would not say he has defended any of them.
