stalactites are from the ceiling and stalagmites come from the ground growing upward......former spelunker here......and not the urban "where's the light switch for this room??...this cave is dark!!!!"........lol
We'd take a minimum of 4 to 5 sources of lights, back up bulbs, batteries, carbide, spare carbide in sealed container, drinking water, energy bars, etc... This was before the LED's of today. I remember having lower incandescent wheat age bulbs for my main light. You could get another 3 to 4 hours by lowering the amp draw on weak batteries, less light of course, but little light is better than NO LIGHT when you're 3 or more miles under the ground in southern IN or Kentucky!!!
It was definitely a stalagmite. It was taller than me.
Former spelunker also. Loved Buckners cave. Used to have a half dozen minimag lights with 2 strapped to my head. Good memories for sure.

Stalactites have to hold on "tight" to the ceiling ... at least that's what I was taught.

Can one ever be a former spelunker? It's been more than a few years since I was in a cave, but I still have all my gear ready to go.

Back when I first started, there were 4 brothers who showed me the ropes. They all smoked and one day, in the deepest part of the cave we were exploring, we sat down for a break. They had us all douse our lights and close our eyes while 1 of them lit up a cigarette. He placed it behind his back, had us open our eyes and remarked "this is my absolute last light source", then he brought the cigarette from behind his back and took a drag. You would have thought we were in broad daylight ... holy cow, when your eyes are starved for input, even the glow of a cigarette is enough to see clearly.
I got started with a great group of guys. We were in a smaller room in southern Indiana. "Bud" (real name Charlie....don't think I ever heard anyone call him by that), had one of the other guys spin me around, they all shut their lights out, and Bud said "find me". At least 10 or 15 minutes went by, Bud never moved. I found other members, walls, they were at least nice and blocked the exit with one guy, so I didn't crawl into the next room. It was probably more terrifying than entering my first house fire. After 15 minutes, they turned the lights on, I was close to Bud, but he was on a rock higher than I could reach, and I sure wasn't going to stand up. He said I was close, but I didn't find him. Bud said never forget this feeling. Always bring at least 4 different types of light, with good back up batteries, spare and different bulbs. Make sure you let someone on the outside know where you went and your approximate entrance time and if your not heard from time. We would occasionally stop, especially in Kentucky. Look back, study the rock, because that might be the way you're getting back out of this cave. It was a great time in my life, single, good job; went caving (SPELUNKING), kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, tent camping, rock climbing, 4 wheeling, rappelling......oh to be young again!!!!

Remember Buckners!!!! I laughed when we entered the "fireplace room". Someone (college kids) had drug firewood back there and actually tried to light a fire. They were lucky they didn't get overcome by CO and the smoke must have been scary in a cave. I remember seeing the partially burnt logs.

I remember them also. We all made the comment "thank God they were not burning them while we were there". The clay room was cool, always found interesting creations. I remember we came up on a "bigger" couple stuck just past the entrance. They were not enjoying the experience.

Went into town to get a Covid test, Nagina certainly has been doing a brisk business. With all the customers packing the snow down there's no need for a plow.

Sir, is local LE aware of this brisk business? I know you wouldn't want to be the one, and draw attention to yourself and risk retaliation, but it seems like there oughta be some way to shut it down.

I vaguely remember you addressing this question, so my apologies in advance.

They are very much aware, locally my county road is known as drug lab road. Since I have lived here I've engaged in "rural renewal" buying out the problems, demolishing the structures and letting nature take over. Maybe they are just waiting on my next move.

This covid crap sucks. I’m going insane. Thankfully I didn’t get it as bad as some here. I’m tired of being home… I was able to get out and walk around the block yesterday and today. The back pain has been terrible. Not sure why.

Thinking about rifles now. Bigger bore something or other. Iron sights.

Have the same issue with the back pain, I'm figuring it's just part of the fever. The gardener didn't want me out of the house, but I needed the test done today and the door to the small barn was frozen shut.

    45-70 large or mid thirties?

No back pain here, thankfully, just everything else. Spent 2+ weeks not going anywhere then just going to Kroger when supplies were needed. Took my stepson to the Immediate Care earlier as he cut himself and then got sandwiches on the way home. That's the extent of it for me, but I share your frustration. Hope you're all able to heal up soon.

So I've been looking around at P07's in .40 lately. Man, this one is rough. Definetely not worth the current bid. These are not so easy to come by.

Also eyeballing this as a contingency (also OOS, referencing model):

Took me about 24 hours to break the fever…

I’m thinking somewhere in the 30 range. Don’t need too big, readily available would be nice. Just something a little larger than 5.56.

I’m due to go back to work Monday so long as I don’t have symptoms for 24 hours. Right now I feel pretty good. Little light on energy, I can feel it in my lungs. But other than the back pain, which seems worse when I wake up in the mornings…
