SCOTUS rules that partisan-gerrymandering challenges to electoral maps are political questions that are not reviewable in federal court, dismissing challenges by Dem. voters to NC congressional map drawn by Rep. officials and by Rep. voters to 1 district drawn by Dems in Md.

The maj. op. explains that partisan gerrymandering cases are not a good fit for judicial determination because "it is not even clear what fairness looks like in this context."

Suggests that state constitutional amendments and legislation are the proper route to address this.

Senior Policy Adviser to Bernie Sanders...

These people are insane.

So. She got her degree from CUNY. She works at Fordham, probably somewhere in The Bronx. She likely can't conceive of living outside the city. Indeed and Glassdoor agree her salary would be at least ~$96000 per year

Back of the napkin calculations, using the gross of the Glassdoor estimate (no adjustments to taxable income)

Federal tax burden $16400
State tax burden $9400
Bronx sales tax (8.875% and used 30% of gross) $2550

That leaves $67650 after taxes
Then, from her listing of her expenses

Rent $26400/yr
Educational loans $13200/yr

Leaving $28050 unencumbered. This leaves out any contribution by some kind of 'partner' because it wasn't mentioned. If she spends all of that, then she's burning about $540/wk every week. That seems a bit expensive, even for NYC. My wife is an artist and knows several people living and even thriving in The Bronx on less. But if she's really drowning, move further east out onto LI somewhere close to an LIRR station and cut the controllable expenses - your rent and taxes

The New Gimmecrats seem to feel if they can't afford all the trappings of affluence they feel entitled to, then 'the system' is at fault and needs to be remodeled. She's a Bernie bot, is she ready for 80% federal taxes on her income or does she think the need for tax revenue will somehow not touch her level?

Useful Idiot

Looks like Twitter and CNN working together. Some curious timing

Edit: Verge, too.

The White House is distributing tickets for President Donald Trump's July Fourth speech on the Mall to Republican donors and political appointees, prompting Democratic lawmakers to question whether the administration's planned celebration violates federal ethics rules.

Is this ok with you guys? Should GOP donors (and you know it's MEGA donors) jump to the front of the line for this event? Should the 4th be turned into a partisan event? I personally think that of ALL the days we should rise above political bickering and exclusion, it should be the 4th. The 4th should be for all Americans, not this or that political party, not just wealthy, middle, or the poor; just Americans.

This seems kinda swampish.

I am sure it would be GOP who buy the tickets to watch Pelosi get drunk and fall off her broom, and that would be for all Americans also...

Donors should only get special seating, if the seating is on private property, owned or rented by the GOP.
