The Pentagon released its budget request for Fiscal Year 2024 today. The figure for the Pentagon alone is a hefty $842 billion. That’s $69 billion more than the $773 billion the department requested for Fiscal Year 2023.

Total spending on national defense — including work on nuclear weapons at the Department of Energy — comes in at $886 billion. Adding in likely emergency military aid packages for Ukraine later this year plus the potential tens of billions of dollars in Congressional add-ons could push total spending for national defense to as much as $950 billion or more for FY 2024. The result could be the highest military budget since World War II, far higher than at the peaks of the Korean or Vietnam Wars or the height of the Cold War.

Not a penny less or the USSR rolls over Europe all the way to Portugal.
The Pentagon says it is to prepare for war with China.

I do not think they care much about Ukraine or the EU at this point.
They do care about the high tech chip factories in Taiwan that most of our military tech requires.

China is getting "uppity" and selling US debt(Japan is now the largest foreign holder of US treasuries, and even they stopped buying). The fed though has gone from 2 trillion in US treasury holdings at the end of 2020 to over 5.5 trillion(for market stability *wink).

We must spend our way to prosperity , if that does not work a large war usually does.

Found this anecdote of a lesser known battle interesting. I was not aware that so many of the units on the front line were not just trained but equipped and funded by individual states within Russia. Kinda sounds like a less standardized National Guard where the Indiana boys don't talk to or act like the Florida boys. Pile on top of that the merc groups of various quality and then the Russian military proper.

No wonder they're struggling with combined arms coordination. The Ukrainian forces all come from the same place and train together on the same gear and comms. Smaller forces fight among themselves less, it's just a fact of life, and it seems like the Russians are wasting a lot of time and lives trying to sort out fractured politics and bad communication.

Needing artillery suppression to cover an assault and avoid getting mines dropped behind you is no time to not be on the same page. But, nothing stays static in war, so it's a question of how and when they'll start figuring it out.

    Pentagon presser scheduled at 2:30pm...

Guess we need the serial numbers given Ukraine likely had at least 2.

Not that it matters. People that should not be in charge will now decide if this means ww3,or just another Tuesday.

Remember that nice pipeline you had, Russia? Such a shame what happened to it. Who could've done such a thing?

Oh, look, nice bombers you've got there, Russia.
Ohh if it wasn't for all these Nukes pointing places..
If it wasn't for that, I am all for a USAF Shock and Awe demonstration... The evil empires of communism are getting too bold.
