And Pence was not protecting the United States, he was protecting himself from possibly having to get a real job
It was an idiotic idea. I’m not gonna give Pence credit for realizing it was an idiotic idea. A broken clock is right twice a day.

If Pence had followed Trump's scheme and it worked, he would have been Vice President for the next 4 years and have a leg up in running for President in 2024. How was he protecting himself in supposedly giving up all this, if it worked?

Did any of his actions as VP point to being a loyal soldier to do as you suggest? Not to me. He was protecting himself and his bonafides with the establishment, that is the path he sees to the presidency…

Apparently, President Trump was satisfied with his loyalty, or he would have chosen someone else as he is running mate for the second term. How was Pence protecting himself? He was well aware of Trump's stranglehold on the Republican party. He essentially committed political suicide.

You have to carry TPTB's water if you want your next job to still be at the government teat - ambassador to somewhere cushy (maybe Switzerland or Tuscany) or something-or-other czar (see John Kerry) or a talking head for the MSM

By not going against their wishes he just preserved his marketability in the jobs without work or value to the economy field

Successful business men sometimes become successful politicians, it is FAR less likely for a successful politician to become successful businessmen. That's why they end up getting a book deal or taking a sinecure, which doesn't happen if you rock the boat
