So you can use ANY privately funded bathroom vs state funded rest stop I was just giving an example. When people spend their own money they spend wiser. When people HAVE to spend other people’s money in order to have the same “budget” next year they aren’t nearly as wise.

    You've never driven across Texas.

Plus, you forgot the part about when they were built.
What I am saying is rest stops ….. in this area…… are unnecessary and complete wastes of resources that the state shouldn’t even have at their disposal anyhow.

And I still think paying for what you use is the best method….. keeps people honest. And I see no downside to it.

Example….. you build a multimillion dollar rest area / welcome center…… charge to use it…. If it cannot pay for itself why is it there? You think if they charge $1 to use a stall anyone will stop? Or have an ipass at it lol but they don’t care about it being unnecessary because it isn’t their money they are throwing in the wind

If we're going to keep talking politics here... then
I think they should stop 'hiding' taxes by having so many different ones.

Just a Federal tax, a State tax, and a Local tax.
Pay each one ONCE A MONTH, like any other bill.
    And no more WITHHOLDING.
Each person should get their FULL paycheck.
Let them see how much they're paying.

Funny we went to lunch yesterday and my son was looking at the receipt. He said something about 8% tax on our total, blah blah. I said it was 7% in Indiana and that began a whole discussion about taxes. I told him the sales tax hasn't been raised in some time (2008 for those interested), but the state has added on plenty of new taxes, and raised other taxes. It makes the sales tax seem low at first glance, but they more than make up for it.

Halloween *IS* the best time to teach children about taxes. :)

Step 1. Have someone else take them to go get the candy.

Step 2. When they get home take away 25% of their candy as a tax for living under your roof.

That theft you just did will hit them hard.

    Any plumbers on here?
    This is in a crawlspace.
Co-worker said it looks wet but when he touches it is not wet or damp. It's the cold water line going to his bathroom.

Water is working. He was in crawl to see if any pipes issues.

    4 u train lovers.
Union station train switch tracks were set on fire by train crew personnel in order to keep them from freezing and to allow the trains to depart union station. 45 min delays right now at union station.

    FYI

They don't "set the tracks on fire".
There is a small pit there, with a "smudge pot" or such.
They light that, and refill at whatever times they deem necessary.

Tell him to not disturb it. The pipe could be corroded under that and cleaning it could open it up.

Looks like fitting at top is seeping.

If his water is working leave it alone until weather is better. If it turns into major repair this is not when you want to shut off water at the main.

Some railroads have propane tanks near switches that have heaters. There is one like that on the CN tracks behind Indiana Ave in Griffith.
Coal fired power plants have "car thaw" heaters. Big electric panels alongside the tracks in a long shed to thaw
the coal before they dump the cars.
