Got myself my first 1911 the other day. A kimber pro carry II two tone. Looking to put some black and silve by grips on it. What is everyone's experience with vz grips?

Congrats on the new Kimber. Mine has always been good to me. The VZ grips are great. I have a set on my Kimber as well as on a CZ 75. There are a lot of different textures from near smooth to cheese grater rough. They usually have a black Friday deal with 15% off and I'm planning on getting a set of double diamond grips in black cherry for one of my other 1911s.

I have a Sig 1911 that has grips very similar to the slants and have not found them to be too rough. I don't think I've ever run more than 100 rounds through it in a day though. If you are a high volume shooter, they could get to be a bit much. Here's a shot of what those are like for comparison to the slants.

Very nice. :yesway: Kimber makes a nice 1911. Some of their internal parts could be better quality, but if you ever get the bug to do some upgrading, there's a whole world of parts manufacturers who make high quality 1911 parts. I have two Kimbers and have had excellent performance from both of them.

Love VZ grips - here's a pic of my Kimber Pro CDP II after it got bobtailed a couple of years ago.

Very nice. How do you bobtail it?

i had it done professionally. The frame had to be refinished as well once it was bobtailed and I didn't want it to look like a hack or bubba job. I sent it to a company that used to be an INGO advertiser - believe they were located in Terre Haute.

I have the gray/black VZ Operator II's on my Ruger SR1911 and love them. They're pretty aggressive, but I like them. They do get to be a bit much after a couple of hundred rounds.

BTW, I really recommend the thumb scoop, or even the super scoop. Very handy and makes dropping the mag a lot easier.

Did you do it for looks or is there a performance gain from doing it?
