My 10 year old Dragonfly took a tumble off the dock and is in about 5 feet of water on a very soft muddy bottom out at Geist Reservoir. I have a general idea of where it fell in. I've searched, barefooted, trying to feel the knife. I'm cautious as the knife was open when it went in.

The bottom is about 6 inches of silty mud until you get a firmer feel. Pretty nasty, and the water is murky so no goggles, etc. I went under, trying to feel around, but was hard to do at my age. (wife thought it was pretty funny)

QUESTION: Would a magnet work? Drag it across the silty mud? The blade is stainless and the scales plastic, so I'm not sure how much a magnet would help. I do have a current Delica which reacts to a magnet but not like a full carbon steel blade.

I'm bummed because I've had that little knife for a few years now.... New ones are $78-$80. Not so much about the money......sentimental value more than anything....suggestions??
