Sanded to 2500 and etched. It’s so packed in that it changes with the light reflection.

You dont use a belt grinder?Thank you! A file guide sure helps keep things even
I do, but the file guide keeps the bevels even, it hits the platen so you have a positive stop on each side. You dont use a belt grinder?
I got it figured out, to me it needs a splash of color, something as bold as the blade is.If it were mine, I'd put grey micarta on it. I would want the scales to be dull so the blade would be the center piece.
Interesting, I have a 6" x 72" Wilton belt grinder. I dont believe ive ever seen a file guide before.I do, but the file guide keeps the bevels even, it hits the platen so you have a positive stop on each side.

I tried to replicate the color in this one. We'll see how close I came when it comes out. Here's one of my favorite pen blanks, unfortunately, the one color isn't available any more.

Those colors are amazing!I spent about five minutes between the two, to skin the one side (3/32") and polish, so as the entrails could be revealed.
The true nature of the cast isn't found on the surface; that is just a representation of the colors.
Sadly, neither of these will become grips, since the guy wants solid black. I'll use Avonite for him.
