Glad to hear you're coming out to HHRP, that was going to be my suggestion too. We have a bunch of people that come out from Bloomington, you could just about set up a shuttle lol. Take a look at the schedule and match descriptions on our website hhrp.org. Steel & USPSA are probably the most exciting matches but we run just about everything on rotation Thursdays. We try to be very newbie friendly.

Anyone seen the scores from last night? I know the MD had to leave early this morning on business so maybe that's why.
21 in attendance last night and good weather too. Thanks to my squad for keeping us moving and pitching in.
Good job Andreaus! You did well on your first outing.

Thanks a ton! I had a great time, and your pointers were extremely helpful. I hope to be back again soon!

I've been wanting to make the dive into participating in shooting matches for a while now, but I'm really not sure where to start. I don't have a whole lot of familiarity with the different ranges in Indiana, so going through matches listed on the forum can be a bit confusing, as they use a lot of acronyms and abbreviations and I'm not always sure where the location is.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a match that would be a good place for a newbie to get started within a reasonable driving distance from Bloomington?

Maybe there would even be one where they wouldn't mind someone coming just to watch for the first time, and not actually participate? I'm also happy to be of help, if I can, at whatever match I would go to, but while I see some postings that mention they would like volunteer help, I'm not really sure if someone needs to have some kind of experience to help out, or if someone who doesn't know what they're doing would just get in the way.

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks!

Another event that might interest you is Bowling Pins in Speedway at MCF&G on the 4th Saturday of the month. Minimal equipment to participate: centerfire handgun or PCC (pistol caliber carbine), extra magazine(s), eyes & ears, and either a holster or range bag to hold your firearm while you aren’t shooting. Competitors start from a low ready position rather than drawing from a holster. The fun comes from the crazy things pins do when you “wing them” rather than hit the sweet spot. Watch the Shooting Sports thread for match announcements or message me with your email if you’d like to receive match reminders.
