Farmer types. What is this crop?

My mom noticed this coming up in the field across from our house. At a distance, based on the timing, I thought it might be winter wheat. But obviously it’s not wheat.

So what is it?

If that's cut beans, it could be bean sprouts. Seeds that make it out the back of the combine often sprout before winter kills them

Thats what I thought. Guess conditions were perfect recently to germinate the lost beans during harvest.

Just never noticed them re-sprouting before I guess.

Not uncommon at all.
Growing season can dictate how high the lowest pods are, sometimes there is significant cutter bar loss.
Dry harvest conditions can cause pod shatter as well, beans just explode everywhere before they get in the machine.
Lots of that around me this year, fields are green or have a green tint to them a few days after harvest, with this warm weather we have.
A good operator will minimize loss, but some is unavoidable.
4 beans per square foot represents about a bushel per acre, so it can really add up fast, but usually looks worse than it is when it greens up.

It's a very warm October with warm ground temps...at least where I am.

Stinkhorn fungus, spores spread by flies.
Genus name Phallus.
Now you know why.

Are you sure? planted beans pop up in rows. The field I was referencing had no order to it when you looked closely. there were plants everywhere with no rows. Like they were planted with a broadcast spreader.
