Yawn.I feel sorry for folks that have no use for an additional hour of light after work, even if it is just mowing as @jamil did. The added hassle of lighting and the reduced temperatures make many things unappealing after dark, no matter what time it is.
Can I mushroom hunt by flashlight? Sure. Things like bike riding and golf not easy in the dark. Also not easy to work around the place whether a house, mini farm or acreage. Then there are the service business that come after I get home from work. I am not meeting them before work and most know the noise ordnances apply 8am-8pm, so that 6am light is wasted on me.
I know several that were able to start a business that way. Can’t do that with with early sunsets…Several years ago, I mowed yards as a sideline income. Working 7am to 3:30 pm, I would take my mowers, string trimmer, leaf blower, to work on my trailer, and earn $100 on the way home from work. You can't do that by mowing grass at 5 am...
Hmmm, so you mow until 9:30-10:30 at night?Several years ago, I mowed yards as a sideline income. Working 7am to 3:30 pm, I would take my mowers, string trimmer, leaf blower, to work on my trailer, and earn $100 on the way home from work. You can't do that by mowing grass at 5 am...
9:30 would be quitting time only on the few long days around the summer solstice because sunset is, at the latest 9:16. 10:30 is dark…Hmmm, so you mow until 9:30-10:30 at night?
Let's say the lawn mowing season goes from 01 May - 30 September. Let's further say that lawn mowing without artificial light can safely take place through the extent of civil twilight. (It is likely somewhere into nautical twilight, realistically.)Several years ago, I mowed yards as a sideline income. Nope. At peak season, nautical twilight ends at 10:30. Astronomical twilight ("dark") doesn't end until 11:18.9:30 would be quitting time only on the few long days around the summer solstice because sunset is, at the latest 9:16. 10:30 is dark…
It is still too dark to work. We were discussing mowing and light on the ground, not in the sky. And it is called nautical twilight for a reason it is most viewable on the water, the June sky on Lake Michigan is truly amazing if one gets away from cities light pollution.Nope. Whether or not it's too dark to work depends on a lot of factors. It might be. It might not be. And as I pointed out in an earlier comment, even at the extreme ends of lawn-mowing season, without DST, there would still be 4+ hours of light (through civil twilight) for an after-work side hustle for someone doing 7a - 3:30p shift work.It is still too dark to work. And again peak season is not very long, maybe 60 days…
For many people doing yardwork (mowing, landscaping, etc.) it is not a side hustle. They need that extra time and income to support a family.Whether or not it's too dark to work depends on a lot of factors. It might be. It might not be. You want to change the circumstance for everybody just to get what you wantPeople say I should just buy outdoor lights. **** that. Why don’t you just pull the shade down?
How does that make it not a side hustle? The very reason that people have side hustles is to help make ends meet. For many people doing yardwork (mowing, landscaping, etc.) it is not a side hustle. They need that extra time and income to support a family.

The others say, why not just change only your own circumstance and leave everybody else out of it
The fact remains: by definition, a time-shifting for Daylight Saving Time is the change in circumstance. Standard Time is the default circumstance. And you want to change the circumstance for everybody just to get what you want.
Pulling a shade in a single room does not signal your body to start shutting down as a proper sunset does.People say I should just buy outdoor lights. **** that. Why don’t you just pull the shade down?
It is hardly a side hustle for someone who owns a landscaping service or works fulltime during the season. How does that make it not a side hustle? The very reason that people have side hustles is to help make ends meet.
And what does that have to do with anything, anyway?
