I'm kinda wishing I'd gone with 6.5 creedmore, especially since the Bergara rifle I really wanted was available in that caliber.
Pre-Covid, it seemed like 6.5CM match ammo was similar in price to 308 match ammo, of course that means nothing in today's market. I have no personal experience, but I've read and heard from a lot of people that 6.5CM has far better ballistics than 308. Shoots flatter and is less affected by wind, etc.

I wouldn't be concerned about the blue tooth setup or another ballistic app helping me learn.

When I started NRL22, I used FPS from my setup shot over a chrono to plug into a ballistic calculator and made a cheat sheet to take to the range. This turned out to be fairly accurate and greatly accelerated my learning curve. I quickly memorized my hold over/under and shot the matches knowing the data for all the ranges and 10 yards difference past 60 yards with a SV .22LR make a large difference on a 2" target......

Excellent point. You'll need a chrono to get the most value out of a ballistics calculator.

I will admit to being a 6.5 fan but ballistically, its hard to argue with 308.

Going solely by bullet drop, it looks like out to 4-500 yards, they're pretty similar. So, 308 would still be a valid caliber to shoot for most people. Just my simple minded viewpoint, I have no actual experience in long range shooting.

Same with wind. Not really any difference until past 600. Plenty of steel has been made to dance at 1000 yards by 308!!

Well, while I would have liked to have grabbed a 6.5CM, I didn't, so I'll just deal with the .308 when I get it in. I'm pretty sure I'll like it just fine.

I wouldn't second guess yourself. 308 is a tremendous cartridge. 6.5 became the flavor of the day when people started winning PRS with it. As I've read over the past couple years, 6mm is the new PRS favorite child (someone please correct me if I am incorrect) so; run what you brung...

Now that I've been outted as a steel-case hater (except for AK rounds !), I guess that I'm going to be shunned, and ignored. :crying:

For anyone that hasn’t used a ballistics calculator, the following is the type of info it generates based upon your input date.

After a little fine tuning, it can be very accurate and, while you still need to make the shoot and read the wind, this sure gets you to 98%.

In this example, a 500 yard shot with a ten mph crosswind (like that ever happens exactly).

Gives you clicks to dial or holdover on your selected reticle.
