Howdy Doc. What are you seeing on the ground right now? Always appreciate your input. Will the next one mutate from omicron? Or Delta? Or alpha?
But the are also saying that Omicron is like the cold, nobody dies from it and i need to get multiple shots to ward it off? I don't get a shot for a cold. I get some Nyquil. Maybe they will make a Nyquilmectin soon and get this whole thing figured out?Of course. Pfizer just announced that they’ll release a new Omicron version in March. So your current vaccine is ****. You need the new one.
Yes. it will also mutate to defeat any of the the protections that the shots may provide. In fact the shotsz will drive the mutations. So in a sense it is self defeating to try to immunize the world's population with an ineffective "vaccine". And it's probably dangerous in that we could cause a mutation to arise that is more virulent AND vaccine proof. Will the next one mutate from omicron? Or Delta? Or alpha?
We are overwhelmed with minor cold symptom patients and the run of the mill typical ER stuff.Howdy Doc. What are you seeing on the ground right now? Always appreciate your input.
.
I kinda think this **** is gonna be over. It’s burning through the population so fast I don’t know if that would tend to mean less chance of variants or more. But it seems mild enough. But I kinda feel like Pfizer & co haven’t rung enough out of this. Will the next one mutate from omicron? Or Delta? Or alpha?
Damn doc, I hate to hear what you're going through and I hate even more the circumstances (.gov and healthcare worker mandates leading to staffing shortages) that have contributed to it.We are overwhelmed with minor cold symptom patients and the run of the mill typical ER stuff.
Tons of vaccinated staff out with.... COVID. A colleague in another state had in one ER shift, a family of 4, family of 5, and family of 6 check in for minor cold symtptoms or simply for a test.
That is so much charting and wasted time for fifteen patients that don't need to be there. We are so overwhelmed that patients are getting seen in hallways beds and sometimes chairs. It increases the likelihood we miss something important.when you examine a five year old with a fever and abdominal pain in a chair in a hallway.
Be sure to slow the team down and make sure all your concerns are being addressed. It really makes us doubt ourselves and we feel bad for a long time when something should have been picked up but wasn't. Usually that's because we're trying to go too fast and don't spend the time to take detailed histories.
The minor viral symptom patients don't realize how they are harming the other patients. Seems like most businesses don't really care if their employees have COVID or not, but they have to follow SOME policy, even if it makes no sense. So they demand an employee get a test before coming back to work. Can't find them retail with Biden buying 500 million tests and urgent care line too long so they go to the ER.
They should be denied testing if minimal symptoms and sent home, but due to EMTALA that is tricky to tell them before they check in. The low acuity people wait for hours, and to spring that on them after the wait is really bad form and makes everyone mad. We still get complaints filed in person and online.
It's a crappy situation. And due to no nursing, so no beds, so diversion all the time, so decreased patients seen, our billed patient volume is down and as a result so is my income, dramatically.
Who would have thought my income as an ER doc would be threatened by the worst pandemic of our lifetime?
I’m totally stealing that. Nyquilmectin. Love it.But the are also saying that Omicron is like the cold, nobody dies from it and i need to get multiple shots to ward it off? Muscle aches made it impossible to sleep but yes that’s all I wanted to do.I’m totally stealing that. Nyquilmectin. Love it.
Anyway, according to a few people I know who had/have it, you have no trouble sleeping. Coworker got it a couple weeks ago and that’s all he wanted to do. Headache, fatigue, fever, congestion.
My son just got tested today. Positive. He's had symptoms for two days. Fever seems to be over. At least hopefully, it won't return. He said he's able to sleep.Muscle aches made it impossible to sleep but yes that’s all I wanted to do.
I had same; I happened to get a very unexpected gift from a Chicago friend of a weighted blanket. Decided to break it out about 2 days into my wuflu. Helped tremendously for getting to sleep - in fact I was falling asleep on my back which I haven’t been able to do in years. Not sure if that was coincidence but whatever, I got some good sleep.Muscle aches made it impossible to sleep but yes that’s all I wanted to do.
I really hope that they call it on March 16th - because then will be “two years to slow the spread.”This may be over by March.
I’m jealous. Been wanting a weighted blanket, if I knew it would’ve helped with Covid I could’ve justified buying it.I had same; I happened to get a very unexpected gift from a Chicago friend of a weighted blanket. Mine hit out of nowhere. Was watching a movie and was fine up until that point, suddenly chills came over like crazy then started aching...My son just got tested today. Positive. He's had symptoms for two days. Fever seems to be over. At least hopefully, it won't return. He said he's able to sleep.
