Ya our company was sent a letter from the DoD stating we are “essential”. We make tooling for aircraft... not what I would consider essential at the moment

We supply transportation, agriculture and some medical with wiring harnesses, ground straps, etc. Some of our customers have closed, though. I am really torn about how I feel about it. Is shelter-in-place really going to help much, if half the state is still going to work?

Exactly. And ask any business owner and they’ll claim their business is essential

Since people are still going to be going out to the grocery and pharmacy and lots to work because so many jobs seem to be essential all of a sudden, this lockdown really wont do sheet.
Maybe they should just use the u.s. mail and start divvying up some n95 masks from the national stockpile to households for when people leave their house. Make it mandatory for anyone in public to wear a mask. That makes more sense.

If you are going to the store or work, its in the damn air because thousands of people have it. So guess what? YOU GETTING IT! Unless you have a mask on

Yup. The way it spreads is when you start breathing in air that other people have used already.

The masks can be very helpful but if they do not fit perfectly they don't prevent you from breathing in unfiltered air. It is harder to fit them perfectly than many people realize.
One doctor said the main thing a mask does is keep you from unconsciously touching near your mouth/nose area.

My offices are in a 160,000 SF office tower w/attached garage. The parking structure was almost vacant today. I just got off a conference call (statewide appraiser group) where someone said Michigan has issued a lock-down and real estate services, sales, appraisal, title work, are all designated as non-essential and it sounded like the order had some teeth.

I ordered a new computer for home and should be set up for remote access this week. Once that's done I can work from home no problem but I don't do that well. When I come into the office I literally interact with no one until I am inside. Office is on the entry level from the parking garage, first door you get to on a side hall. unless there is some penalty, I plan to continue to work there.

It's not about stopping the spread. It's about limiting it. Slowing it.

The less times you travel by plane, the less likely you are to die in a plane crash. The less often you drive, the less often likely you are to be involved in a traffic accident.

The less exposure you have to other humans, the less likely you are to contract this, or any other virus.

You can personally attempt to limit your risk of exposure to zero. But not everyone has that option. Attempting to force EVERYONE to a zero level of exposure would result in civil unrest like we've never seen.

Don't forget the pawn shops and payday loans that must be open! They are critical.

There are way too many exceptions if we wanted this to really work.

Just a general question that I can't seem to find an answer to:

Do we have a breakdown anywhere by geneology? By that I mean, do we know if NY deaths are more Italians, or Irishmen, Puerto Ricans, or Serbo-Croatians? We have age breakdowns, but the only other dynamic I've heard so far is "Type A" blood may have a higher incident of death. (wrong words, but IANAD).

    Just wondering.

If every single person limited their exposure to zero. The spread would stop in its tracks. Those already infected would recover or die. This whole thing would be over in a two to four weeks. But obviously this ain't never gonna happen - we will keep spreading it for months or years. That's just the way the world is.
