If you want something in a military rifle that will shoot long range a Swiss K31 Schmidt Rubin is probably as good as you will find. I have Mosins, Mausers, and a variety of other US and foreign mil-surp rifles, some of them shoot pretty good, but none will out shoot my K31. The surplus Swiss ammo is also very high quality and I've read that it can be reloaded with .308 bullets.

Not if you are hunting in Indiana, none of those are legal.

A Mosberg 500 12ga used will set you back $150 and with slugs is legal for deer in Indiana.

Care to share your your secret source for $150 500's? Never seen one under $225 that I can recall and that would be on sale at that price.

I have killed 4 deer (in Kentucky) with my Mosin. It's a plenty accurate gun with WAY more than enough knock down power. I mean that literally. It knocked the deer down :D

All of my shots were within 100 yards, but it dropped them every time.
