The Railcats are a minor league baseball team.

On the one hand it's a ballpark. On the other hand, it is in Gary, IN.

    Any thoughts?

In the past couple weeks there have been shootings at the Bennigan's next to the field. First was a shoot-out in the early morning, then just a day or 2 ago some guy shot his 19 month old child dead in the chest then tried to commit suicide an hour before a game. I've heard it's a great place to see a ballgame, but it's at your own risk nowadays. Not sure on the rules or if they pat you down, but I don't think I'd risk going unarmed. Concealed means concealed, at least till you get through the pat down.

Posted no carry, but no wanding or pat downs when I was there about 2 mo ago. But there were LEO everywhere outside in cars, on foot, riding segways. But yes I did carry. And it is a nice park.

It's a great park. Worth short drive from LS.

I go a handful of times per season and they have used a wand a couple of times. They also used the wand at the Michael Jackson's tribute thingy.

Like Timjoebillybob said, the place and areas around the park are lit up with LEO. People from all over the place go watch the games, I've even meet Chicago people who take the train and walk the short distance to the Ballpark.

I take my three year old grandson and have never felt scared or uneasy. We always have a great time.

    GREAT SUCCESS!!

I didn't see any postings about no carry. I read the back of the ticket and it said most of the rules; no food or drink brought in, etc. If they explain that on the ticket why not explain the weapon rule. But anyways I saw no rules posted anywhere.

    Railcats won. No shootouts tonight.

Its a nice park located in the murder capital of America. Run-down, boarded up buildings everywhere. Shootings all over the place. Very dangerous. I wouldn't have felt safe NC'ing.

    from the story above:

The men in the white Oldsmobile opened fire on a few men who were talking to women after the bar closed, Azcona said. Azcona said the men in the Oldsmobile likely didn't know the other men. The initial shooting appears a crime of opportunity, he said.

The men in the Oldsmobile account for most of the rounds fired, but one man in the other group returned fire, Azcona said. That man, who also was shot, was arrested, police said.

    WTF! :bs:

    Check on US Steelyard CCW

Coming to Gary (yuck) for the 2012 college baseball regionals, and noticed the CCW postings for the park were somewhat dated.

What's the latest on whether it's permitted there?

Maybe a necropost, but Tomcat7 had a question. It's been a while, so things may have changed.
Security measures get changed. Buildings change owners. Laws change.

    2018 update:
CCed using the main gate (which I usually opt for the lesser used, more lax side gate) with 0 issues. $2 Taco Tuesdays & $5 Margarita Night.
